A cast member from Below Deck Down Under had a heart-stopping moment on the latest instalment of the Bravo hit series. Deckhand Harry Van Vliet found himself shouting for medical help after a horrific incident with a jet ski almost cost him his finger. The drama unfolded while he was securing the watercraft to haul it back aboard at day’s end. Then, in an unconventional move, Captain Jason Chambers pierced through the reality TV veil as he urgently radioed production. “Production, we have an issue with Harry on the jet ski at the moment. I’ve got to go around and retrieve him,” he announced. Harry’s cries of agony echoed as he bellowed “hook down” prompting a swift intervention.

Amidst the chaos, viewers heard Harry scream: “Where’s the medic, quick? ! I need a towel or something. I f*****g crushed my thumb,” – as the camera didn’t shy away from his bloody mishap, complete with a detached thumbnail. Harry later recounted how his thumb got “crushed” during the fastening of the jet ski’s cradle when a wave slammed it against the jet ski. The injury caused alarm throughout the crew, highlighted by the medic’s warning about the risk posed by a staff infection due to the watery environment, reports the Mirror. The pain escalated, forcing Harry to seek hospital treatment the following day. Overwhelmed by the ordeal, Harry confessed he’d “never felt like this in his life,” as he worried about the possibility of his onboard career ending prematurely, while Captain Jason fretted over finding a replacement deckhand.

As the drama unfolded, fans flocked to X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, to express their concerns. “Poor Harry on Below Deck Down Under 🙁 He’s like the sweetest crew member too,” one fan wrote sympathetically. Another voiced their support: “Harry, we are pulling for you, honey. We hope you are going to be OK and be able to continue the season because it’s a joy and a pleasure to have you there. You bring a great energy to the crew. I agree with the captain.” Echoing the sentiment, a third chimed in: “Harry, we are pulling for you, honey. We hope you are going to be OK and be able to continue the season because it’s a joy and a pleasure to have you there. You bring a great energy to the crew. I agree with the captain.” Meanwhile, a puzzled viewer raised an eyebrow at the on-screen action: “Anyone else pick up on the Captain Jason yelled for production INSTEAD of the deck crew when Harry got hurt? Peculiar. #BelowDeckDownUnder”.
