The former Great British Bake Off judge is about to turn 90, and the BBC’s popular show will be celebrating her remarkable life and career over the years. Set to air on March 24, hosts Alex Jones and Roman Kemp will surprise Mary in the studio by bringing in some of her celeb pals including Claudia Winkleman, Mel Giedroyc, Sue Perkins, Monica Galetti and Michael Ball. Dame Mary will also take viewers on a trip down memory lane to her childhood home in Bath and discuss her lengthy career, becoming a household name as the queen of home cooking and her stint on the Channel 4 hit show.

Masterchef judge and professional chef Monica Galetti has been tasked with the birthday cake, while Michael Ball and the BBC Singers will provide a musical finale by surprising her with a rendition of one of her favourite songs, reports the Mirror. Specially adapted and arranged so that the lyrics are all about Dame Mary. To top it off, she receives a very special birthday wish from a member of the Royal family. This comes after the star recently opened up about her busy work life at the age of 89, admitting that she still has ‘lots of thoughts and ideas’.

At the time, while discussing her new series Mary’s Foolproof Dinners, where she meets celebrities and helps them whip up exciting new dishes, she revealed when asked about her future plans that she still has plenty to offer. Mary revealed her zest for life, saying: “Well, next, I’m 90, so I don’t quite know what we’ll do for that but I still have lots of thoughts and ideas.” She wrapped up her plans with a touch of wit, adding: “And there’s plenty of time to rest in heaven.” The One Show airs weekdays from 7pm on BBC One and iPlayer
