Privacy NoticeThe One Show’s Alex Scott had to step in when co-host Clara Amfo highlighted time constraints following an interview that ran over. On Wednesday’s episode of the BBC hit show, viewers saw Alex Scott, 39 and co-star Clara Amfo, 40, welcome First Dates star Fred Sirieix and EastEnders actress Tracy-Ann Oberman. Delving into his latest book, Fred reminisced about his youth and love for Britain. Alex kicked off the chat stating: “We know how proud you are of your home country but you are an honorary Brit.” Fred unfolded the tale of his cross-Channel journey, saying: “I came here when I was 20 so I’ve been in the UK for 32 years, which is longer than I’ve been in France and my love affair with the UK started when I was 14. I loved speaking in English and I was writing poetry in English and I loved the idea of living my life in English.”

The studio erupted with laughter as Alex, amused and bewildered, inquired: “Fred, where are we going, what’s going on?” Turning his attention back to the book, he noted: “So the book really is about what the French think about the Brits and my adventure in the UK from the time I arrived to now. We have so many similarities but at the same time there are so many differences.” When Alex probed about his family’s reaction, Fred shared: “Well my parents were not really too keen but I was so keen on coming to the UK I got a one way ticket and I loved it from the moment I arrived.”

He delved into his experiences: “I didn’t go and live where there were a lot of French people, I just got stuck straight away into the culture and the people.” The segment was cut short as time ran out on the show. Mid-sentence, Fred was interrupted by Alex who said with urgency: “Sorry Fred we are going to have to tell everyone that they can buy your book right now.! “. Wrapping up, Clara lamented: “Sadly there is never enough time but that means that we have had a great time so sadly that is all for tonight.” The One Show airs weekdays on BBC One and iPlayer Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
