Privacy NoticeAlex Scott, the BBC sports presenter, has jetted off to Ibiza for a sun-drenched holiday with her girlfriend, Jess Glyne, after being ‘overlooked’ for the Paris Olympics coverage. The 39 year old commentator was noticeably absent from this year’s presenting line-up, which sees Gabby Logan and Clare Balding return to cover all the action on the BBC over the next two weeks. Alex faced backlash for her accent during the Tokyo Olympic Games three years ago, but she stood her ground with a powerful Instagram post. She shared a quote from Dr Seuss: “Be who you are and say what you feel, because in the end those who matter don’t mind and those who mind don’t matter, Dr Seuss.” Lord Digby Jones, businessman and politician, criticised Alex on X, formerly known as Twitter, for her pronunciation while presenting on the BBC.

He tweeted: “Enough! I can’t stand it anymore! Alex Scott spoils a good presentational job on the BBC Olympics Team with her very noticeable inability to pronounce her ‘g’s at the end of a word. Competitors are NOT taking part, Alex, in the fencin, rowin, boxin, kayakin, weightliftin and swimmin.” Alex hit back at the tweet, proudly stating: “I’m from a working class family in East London, Poplar, Tower Hamlets and I am PROUD (Raising hands emoji). Proud of the young girl who overcame obstacles, and proud of my accent! It’s me, it’s my journey, my grit.” Alex Scott has covered some of the world’s biggest footballing events including the English Premier League, 2018 FIFA World Cup and the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup, reports the Express.

She also found love with singer Jess, 34, after the pair were first spotted together at an event called Advertising Week Europe back in May 2023. As their romance bloomed, Jess and Alex opted to keep things private as they got to know each other. However, after a series of dates, both before and after the Women’s World Cup, Alex took their relationship public by sharing a photo of Jess on her Instagram stories, with the caption ‘Oh hello…’ adorned with a red heart and heart eyes emojis, delighting her followers. Alex also opened up about the romance to Women’s Health UK as she said: “I’m in this bubble at the moment… I am more open to accepting and being more vulnerable and I’m absolutely enjoying this stage. I’m enjoying being like, okay, I’m just gonna roll with this. I think, before, I was very walls up. All those walls have, like, come down.”
