Privacy NoticeThe 2024 Olympic Games kicked off in Paris tonight (Friday 26 July) with a show-stopping opening ceremony – although BBC commentator Rebecca Adlington didn’t hold back when giving her opinion on the big French welcome. The three-hour spectacle took place on the River Seine, with the likes of Lady Gaga and Celine Dion performing as part of the big show. However, the rainy weather proved to put a dampener on the experience – particularly for those live on the scene. Speaking to BBC coverage host Clare Balding after the opening ceremony ended, Rebecca Adlington revealed that she wasn’t the biggest fan of the opening ceremony. “I think it’s one of those where it’s a different experience when you’re watching it on telly to when you’re out there,” she said.

“The weather isn’t helping, it has not stopped raining so I think being cold and it’s just one of those where it’s slightly tarnished the experience. It wasn’t my favourite opening ceremony I have to admit just because I think it was so different and so ambitious, I think I’m probably stuck in my ways.” She went onto add that the Parisian show felt “disjointed” due to it being set on various barges on the River Seine. “I like the stadium, I like when it’s all together and I like when you can see different things going off where this felt a bit disjointed in parts,” she added. Rebecca wasn’t the only one with negative things to say about the show, with some viewers taking to social media to complain about the sound quality – yet again, due to the rain. Viewers took to X, formerly Twitter, to voice their complaints, with one user saying: “Can’t quite hear over the rain #Olympics #OpeningCeremony.”

Another frustrated viewer wrote, “You can hear the rain over the music and singing…did anyone thought about giving them individual mics and mic receivers so the world can hear what’s going on or more for whoever is watching on the Seine? #OlympicGames #olympics #OpeningCeremony.” A third viewer simply asked, “Why is the rain louder than the music? ? ? #Olympics #OpeningCeremony #bbc,” reports the Mirror. Meanwhile, other Brits pointed out the Made in Chelsea theme song playing during the opening ceremony. While there could well be Made in Chelsea fans in France, its theme song Midnight City was most likely played as it belongs to French electronic group M83. Midnight City was the group’s breakout single back in 2011 before it became synonymous with Made in Chelsea.Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
