Privacy NoticeEastEnders fans have pieced together clues that suggest Shirley Carter is set to make a return sooner than expected. The iconic character, played by Linda Henry, first graced our screens in 2006. Known for her brash personality and chain-smoking habits, Shirley quickly became a fan favourite. Over the years, she’s been at the centre of several dramatic storylines, including the murder of her best friend Heather Trott (Cheryl Fergison) and an on-again-off-again romance with Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden). However, in December 2022, Shirley bid farewell to the soap, leaving viewers devastated. Her departure followed the disappearance of her son Mick at sea, who was attempting to rescue Linda Carter (Kellie Bright) and Janine Butcher (Charle Brooks). Adding to the drama, Shirley’s other son, the despicable Dean (Matt Di Angelo), made a comeback last year. Fans will remember that he was arrested in April for the murder of Keanu Taylor (Danny Walters), reports the Daily Star.

However, it was actually Linda who killed Keanu in an attempt to stop him from strangling Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean). Linda, Sharon, and the rest of The Six then framed Dean for the crime. Since then, Dean has been incarcerated, with The Six seemingly getting away with their actions. However, fans are now convinced that a return is imminent for Dean’s mother, Shirley – and it could be sooner than we think. This week on the soap, Dean’s plea hearing took place where he pleaded not guilty. It was then revealed that Dean’s court case will be taking place in September – sending fans into a frenzy, thinking this will be when mum Shirley makes a comeback.

Wonder if she returns for the trial.” A second penned: “She is definitely returning then.” A third wrote: “Dean’s court case in September and a Shirley mention. I hope she returns in the autumn for Dean’s trial.” Meanwhile, another fan proclaimed: “Please bring back Shirley in September!”Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
