Privacy NoticeBBC Breakfast’s Carol Kirkwood had to put her co-host Charlie Stayt in his place when he cheekily enquired about her space travel aspirations. On Thursday’s show, Charlie, 62, teamed up with Naga Munchetty, 49, to chat about the hottest topics of the week. They kicked off with a story about two US astronauts who are stuck in orbit two months after their test mission to the International Space Station due to issues with their Boeing Starliner spacecraft. Astronauts Barry Wilmore, 61, and Sunita Williams, 58, were supposed to leave the Space Station on 5 June and return shortly after.

Naga told viewers: “Two months after blasting off on a test mission to the international space station, two astronauts are still unable to return home after problems with a Boeing Starliner spacecraft, which means that they can’t be brought back to Earth,” reports the Express. She continued: “Barry Wilmore and Sunita Williams now might end up spending eight months rather than the originally planned eight days on board the ISS.” In a segment recorded earlier, BBC North America correspondent Peter Bowes said that it’s still up in the air when the astronauts will be able to come back down to Earth. Back in the studio, Charlie seized the moment to probe Carol about whether she’d ever fancy a trip to the stars.

Charlie Stayt sparked a playful exchange with BBC weather presenter Carol Kirkwood, teasingly asking her, “My question for Carol this morning is, if you had a ticket available to you now would you go to space? ” Carol didn’t hesitate as she quickly shot back, “No. Easy answer.” Prompting Charlie to probe, “But why not?” Carol opened up, revealing her preference: “I just don’t fancy it and I like being down here on earth thanks Charlie. It just doesn’t appeal to me at all but I like looking at satellites, that’s it.” As the banter continued, Naga Munchetty chimed in, half-joking: “I wonder if Charlie was offering you a ticket.” The conversation ended on a high note with laughter as Carol retorted with a twinkle in her eye, “Yeah a one way ticket.” BBC Breakfast is on BBC1 weekdays at 6amStory SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
