Privacy NoticeBBC Breakfast had to halt the show after a live technical glitch occurred on air. On Tuesday’s episode of the popular BBC programme, 16 July, presenter Jon Kay and his co-host Nina Warhurst were joined by sports presenter Hugh Ferris. They were discussing the upcoming Euro 2025 qualifier match for the Lionesses. The England Women’s team is set to face Sweden in Gothenburg on Tuesday for the final qualifier. It was announced that correspondent Kate Cornel was reporting live from Gothenburg ahead of the game. Nina began by saying: “After the disappointment from the boys, let’s talk about the Lionesses bringing it home.”

Sports presenter Hugh Ferris responded: “Let’s say it has been a very complicated qualification process that Uefa has put in place. Northern Island, Scotland, and Wales can all secure a play-off place.”, reports the Express. He continued, looking at the camera: “But it’s to the Lionesses we go to Gothenburg where a crucial match will take place.” “There is our correspondent Kate who is there ahead of the game. So Just a point needed for England to secure that place in the final.” However, as the camera switched over to Kate, it seemed like the show experienced some awkward technical difficulties as no one could hear Kate, and the screen was frozen.

The show had to pause for a moment and cut back to the studio following the mishap. “Well we can all agree that Kate was in Gothenburg but not moving,” Hugh laughed. He had to intervene, stating: “Just to let it out in case we can’t get Kate back. A point is enough but of course, a win is what the Lioness would want to make sure that they’re in the finals and are the defending champions.” The discussion comes shortly after heartbreak for England fans, as Gareth Southgate’s team lost 2-1 to four time Euro champions Spain in a nail biting finale on Sunday night. Among the thousands of fans in the stadium in Berlin was Prince William, as he shared a heartfelt message for the squad after the game. Posting on the official Instagram account for the Prince and Princess of Wales, an Instagram Story read: “This time it just wasn’t meant to be. We’re all still so proud of you. Onwards @england.
