Privacy NoticeKate Humble candidly shared her frustration over the expectation for women to justify their decision not to have children, despite being content in her child-free life with her husband of three decades, Ludo Graham. The beloved Springwatch presenter, who is 55, has been open about her choice to remain without children, a realisation she came to in her teenage years and has spoken about publicly for the past decade, especially after hitting her 40s. In a heartfelt interview with Good Housekeeping magazine, Kate shared her astonishment at the persistent societal pressure on women, stating: “I’m staggered women are still asked to justify the choice.” Embracing her age with confidence, Kate – who’s back on TV presenting Animal Park alongside Ben Fogle – reflected on the liberating aspect of growing older, which brings a carefree attitude towards others’ opinions. She continued: “The wonderful thing about being this age is that you care less about what people think.”

Also, in an interview with Saga magazine in 2021, Kate delved into her personal journey, affirming her peace with not becoming a mother: “I know motherhood was not for me and, literally, it bypassed me. Not being a mum has never been an issue.” However, she also touched upon the downsides of fame, particularly the invasive nature of having to discuss deeply personal choices: “The worst thing about being famous is when you have to justify in an interview a decision or point of view you feel is incredibly personal and nobody else’s business.”

Kate – who now hosts Animal Park alongside Ben Fogle where they explore Longleat Safari Park – also shared her personal stance on family life, candidly admitting: “Luckily, I married someone who agreed.” In a heart-to-heart last year with the Mirror, Kate revealed why she left the hustle and bustle of London for the peaceful Welsh countryside: “I was desperate to move out. I love the countryside and I just felt it was the right time to make that move.” She delved into her rural aspirations and tomboyish nature, saying: “Everyone dreams about being self-sufficient and living in the country, but I grew up being a bit of a tomboy I never cared about roughing it or getting dirty.” Moving to the country was not just a fantasy but a fulfilled dream for her: “For me it was a dream come true and I’m proud of the way my husband has taken to rural life too. All I would say is it takes a lot of hard work and early mornings but I love it.” Animal Park returns to BBC One on Monday, 12 August at 9.30amStory SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
