Privacy NoticeFourteen years ago to the day, Zara (née Phillips) and Mike Tindall announced their engagement to the world. Cut to 2024, and unlike many failed royal marriages, the couple are still going strong, now parents to three children, Mia, Lena and Lucas. The former rugby player popped the all important question in a low-key proposal at their home on July 12 2010. Speaking about the moment at the time, Mike said: “I was upstairs, plucking up the nerve to do it, while Zara was downstairs watching television,” he recalled. “It was all about shock value – I wanted to catch her when it was quiet, and she wasn’t expecting anything… She was completely in shock. Then, when she stopped laughing, she said, ‘Yes.’ That was a relief.”

The couple have remained popular with the public, as former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond discusses their relationship with OK! “They are just brilliant, aren’t they? The modern, fun and extremely glamorous side of the Royal Family.” “Everyone loves how down to earth they are, how shrewdly they have navigated the tightrope of being royal and making a commercial living. Mike has somehow managed to take part in reality TV and have his rugby podcast without letting too much out of the bag…just enough to keep us tantalised.” Mike took part in Series 22 of I’m A Celebrity in 2022, lasting 21 days in the Australian jungle. Viewers were taken aback by how down to earth the star was, sharing funny anecdotes of the royal family, as well as shocking everyone with his amazing rapping skills.

Mike was in the jungle alongside stars including Boy George, Coronation Street ’s Sue Cleaver and Former Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, Matt Hancock. “He is such an unlikely member of the Royal Family….and yet such a successful one. You’ve gotta love him. I think everyone enjoys the fact that they are so tactile, so open with their love…and how crazy they still seem about one another,” Jennie continued. “After the failed marriages in the family, it’s refreshing to see a couple who clearly mean the world to one another, 14 years after announcing their love to the world.” Mike and Zara tied the knot on 30 July 2011 at Canongate Kirk in Edinburgh, just three months after Zara’s cousin Prince William’s royal wedding with Kate Middleton, whose huge royal wedding took place at Westminster Abbey in April that same year.Story SavedYou can find this story in My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
