Privacy NoticeIf there’s one thing we take seriously, it’s enjoying a nice cup of tea. So when an American tried to get involved in the British tradition, it caused absolute chaos. Kelsey Pomeroy, a Kansas-based influencer, threw a high-tea party in celebration of the new season of Netflix’s Bridgerton dropping. Despite claiming to brew a “proper” cuppa, her method left a lot to be desired. She went all out by purchasing a box of Yorkshire Gold tea bags – only to desecrate them! The first offence was mixing the water and milk first and then boiling them together. In an Instagram video, she said: “I am an American learning how to make a proper cup of British tea because I’m throwing a high-tea party in honour of the Bridgerton premiere. “Internet told me to buy these teas, the PG Tips and the Yorkshire Gold. Someone said that the perfect way to prepare this tea is to boil the milk with the water first and then pour it on top of the tea and then add the sugar. But no, I’ll put it in a pan.”

Kelsey pondered putting two teabags in instead of one, but thankfully settled on a singular bag. She then let everything steep for three minutes, before pouring out the tea. Despite her unconventional boiling technique, the brew looked pretty normal. She also shared that it ‘tasted good’, before adding: “If you know how to make a proper cup of British tea, what should I change and try differently? Should I have boiled it in the kettle?” Kelsey probably wished she didn’t ask for feedback – as the responses were absolutely savage. One commenter replied: “As a Brit, I’m going to need an obscene amount of therapy to get over the boiling milk.” Another said: “Genuinely think you may be banned from the UK for this.” And a third joked: “I think it’s funny you said you were gonna make a ‘proper cup’ of tea and then almost instantly chose violence.” So what do you make of the Americans take on traditional tea?
