Privacy NoticeAmanda Holden, the Britain’s Got Talent judge, has revealed that she almost had to withdraw from the show due to her daughter’s frightening unknown illness. The 53 year old TV personality has shared the “terrifying” experience of her 18 year old daughter, Lexi, being rushed to hospital with a life-threatening bacterial infection. The A-level student contracted the rare E. coli infection in May, before the current outbreak made headlines, meaning that when she first fell ill, the cause of her sickness was a mystery. As Lexi’s condition deteriorated, Amanda was in the middle of filming BGT’s live shows, reports the Mirror.

The mum-of-two has now disclosed what was happening behind the scenes and how she seriously contemplated leaving the show. Amanda detailed how she hurriedly took her daughter to a tropical disease hospital after being informed that Lexi was “in danger of contracting sepsis”. There, the young girl was immediately put on a drip and her anxious parents stayed by her side for five days. Recounting the dreadful ordeal, which coincided with BGT’s finals week, to The Sun, Amanda remembered spending “all day” in the hospital, before her husband, Chris Hughes, would take over, allowing her to dash to the TV studio. Amanda told the publisher: “I was filming Britain’s Got Talent live shows during this time and, had the situation worsened, I’d have had no hesitation in pulling out of the show.” The beloved judge was secretly balancing her role as a carer for her daughter while delivering stellar TV performances night after night.

Thankfully, Lexi is now on the mend, and Amanda revealed she’s “praying there’s no long-term damage”. The star added that her daughter is now “doing so much better” and “living life like a normal 18-year-old” again. Discussing the decision to share Lexi’s story, Amanda explained how her daughter wanted to “help raise awareness” about the condition, which they believe she contracted from pre-washed supermarket lettuce. The Heart Radio host cautioned: “I urge everyone to forensically wash their fruit and veg.”

The TV star also wants to highlight the symptoms of the bacterial infection, which can easily be mistaken for stress and anxiety. Lexi was in the middle of preparing for her A-levels when she first started feeling unwell, leading Amanda to attribute her daughter’s symptoms to exam stress. The West End sensation warned: “The reason I am speaking out is because I want to make people aware of the symptoms they could easily put down to stress or anxiety. They should be taken seriously, especially if long term.”Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
