Privacy NoticeAlex Henry from Married At First Sight UK has been at the heart of controversy on the E4 reality show, despite his nuptials only being shown this week. The 28-year-old groom from Birmingham starred in last night’s episode where he tied the knot with single mum-of-two Holly Ditchfield. However, it didn’t take too long for fans and his new wife to grow concerned about the match, referring to her having children as “all that s***” which he could overlook if he liked her. But even before their wedding aired, there were issues with Alex’s appearance on the show. The first being that he was under military arrest for taking part in Married At First Sight UK when he wasn’t given permission to.

The aviation operations were reportedly stationed at RAF Spadeadam in Cumbria when he asked his commander for additional leave last year so he could film the show. Alex was denied leave but despite this, decided to go ahead with shooting MAFS UK anyway and so was seized by military police once filming concluded. He was sentenced to 34 days in military prison before he was allegedly fired from his job. The star’s spokesman stated that he handed himself to the military authorities and “served 24” of his 34 days as a “model inmate”. Another issue arose prior to filming as well as a friend of an ex-girlfriend alleged that he was abusive towards her.

She claimed on social media that he was a “domestic abuser” and how she saw “first hand the damage that this man has done”. In response, Women’s Aid said it was “incredibly disappointed” with the show’s producers for not removing Alex from the show once the allegations were made. “Having seen the direct impact of abusive behaviours displayed on the show in previous years on survivors, we would have hoped that protection and tolerance levels for abuse would leave no room for perpetrators to be given a platform again, with their actions being televised as ‘entertainment’. “Sadly, this decision demonstrates the lack of awareness that the production team still has when it comes to domestic abuse.” A Channel 4 spokesperson went on to state that everyone taking part in MAFS UK was subjected to a “rigorous vetting process, involving a criminal record check and multiple psychological evaluations” before they were allowed to appear. The channel stated that a DBS check on Alex came back clear and that they “continue to review this process to ensure checks are as thorough as legally possible”. MAFS UK season nine continues four nights a week at 9pm on E4. Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
