Privacy Notice Former Coronation Street heartthrob Shayne Ward narrowly escaped being booted from BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing last week, even though he wasn’t among the lowest scorers according to the judges. His flirtation with danger came after his Cha Cha with dance partner Nancy Xu didnt charm the audience as much as it should have, leaving them in the uncomfortable position of facing the dance-off. Despite a nail-biting moment, it was Nick Knowles who ultimately took the final bow, while Shayne prepares to dazzle the dance floor once more this weekend. And Shayne as he progresses through the show is certainly receiving plenty of support from fiancee Sophie, 40, and their adorable kids, son Reign and daughter Willow.

Ready to tie the knot, the couple pressed pause on wedding plans to allow Shayne to seize the Strictly spotlight – a move encouraged by his other half. “It was actually Sophie who put me forward for the show,” Shayne revealed, reports the Mirror. Sophie’s been an avid Strictly fan for years, always hinting Shayne would shine: “For many years she’s talked about Strictly, she loves, loves the show, so every year the music would come on and she’d whisper: ‘You’d be good at this.'”. Shayne’s journey since winning The X Factor has been full of exciting twists, but not without its challenges. His partner Sophie opened up in an emotive chat with Brood Magazine, recalling when “when Reign was 6 weeks old and Shayne left for 3 months to do the show” as a particularly tough period for her as a new mum. The “show” was Channel 5’s The Good Ship Murder, which sees the star play a police detective on a Mediterranean cruise ship. “I don’t think I spoke to him for 24 hours, purely because I was in shock,” said Sophie, of the time Shayne found out he’d secured the role and would begin filming the following week. “Then of course I realised it was an amazing opportunity but having just had a baby, that was definitely the most challenging time.”

Shayne said he was “heartbroken” to leave their newborn son so soon and admits being away from his children is the hardest part of acting. “Being in a country and not seeing them every day, as silly as it sounds I kept worrying that they might not remember me,” he said. Shayne and Sophie began dating in 2016 and got engaged at Christmas in 2017. “I had told Shayne that if he was ever going to propose I would love my family to be there,” Sophie told OK! “We were stood in the hallway – I was wearing pyjamas and my hair was tied up with a pair of knickers.” “Once the music [Barbra Streisand’s I’ve Dreamed of You] Shayne came over and asked if he could have a dance with me. I suddenly thought oh crap, he is going to ask me in front of everybody. I know it sounds weird as I’m an actor but I don’t like being the centre of attention.
