Privacy NoticeStrictly Come Dancing champ Bill Bailey had to say goodbye to his iconic locks after a barbecue mishap set them alight. The 59 year old, who danced his way to victory in the 2020 series of the BBC dance show, is due to grace our screens on the Graham Norton show tonight, sharing the spotlight with actress Amy Adams, rock legend Bruce ‘The Boss’ Springsteen and American sensation Vanessa Williams. However, his trademark tresses turned into a safety risk when the universe seemingly sent him a sign to get a trim. Chatting with Irish chat show host Graham, he revealed: “I was on a hiking holiday in the summer and at one point I was leaning over a barbecue and my hair caught on fire. I think the universe was telling me it was time.”

And it seems the new look is doing wonders for his image, with Bill sharing: “The other day someone came up to me and said, ‘You look just like Bill Bailey, but younger.’ It’s great,” as reported by Metro, reports the Mirror. Bill unveiled his fresh cut on social media, posting a picture of his newly trimmed scalp on Facebook. The Black Books star penned: “After many, many years of being a barbershy hippy I’ve finally had a haircut . Feels a bit weird, but I’m learning to like it.” In other news, Bill recently opened up on how he met his wife back in 1987. His “Free spirit” wife Kristin was running the Edinburgh bar where Bill was performing when their paths crossed and sparks flew. Speaking about the impact Kristin had on him in a heartwarming 2015 Scotsman interview, Bill, then 59,reminisced: “She had a very distinctive style. She had this long brocade coat, and I realised she was a free spirit and did her own thing. We ended up chatting away, and all went to a party, and she put me up on her sofa.”

The much-loved funnyman won Strictly with former pro Oti Mabuse in 2020

To show his gratitude for her hospitality, Bill did the gentlemanly thing and brought Kristin flowers. Yet, he couldn’t shake the feeling that this wasn’t merely a fleeting connection. At a time when instant messaging was the stuff of science fiction, Bill quite charmingly decided he needed to sweep the ‘wild card’ off her feet the old-school way. Cue the romantic escapade of Bill writing daily letters to Kristin for a year, a testament to his devotion as he confessed, “I didn’t have a computer for email, phoning wasn’t easy. It was very old-fashioned.” But all’s well that ends well his persistence melted her heart, and a love story blossomed. Their relationship culminated in a fittingly unconventional wedding, reflecting their unique bond. The two exchanged vows amidst the lush setting of Indonesia in 1998. Back in 2009, Bill revealed: “We were travelling around Asia and sailed into a place called Banda, with a beautiful lagoon, and a smoking volcano on one side and a Dutch colonial fort, an old church and remains of a little town on the other. We decided to get married there and then.”Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
