Privacy NoticeCoronation Street viewers were left reaching for the tissues as Paul Foreman’s storyline took a tragic turn, hinting that his time on the show is drawing to a close. Paul, portrayed by Peter Ash, has been battling motor neurone disease (MND) since his diagnosis last year, and his health has been in decline ever since. The soap confirmed that Paul’s journey would come to an end next week, with a heartbreaking twist potentially preventing Billy from saying his final farewells. In the latest episode, Paul convinced Billy to take a well-deserved break from his caregiving duties. Kit stepped in to watch over Paul while Bernie was away, but a frightening coughing fit left Paul gasping for air.

Kit, who had been keeping company with Paul, noticed his breathing difficulties during a casual TV session. He quickly sprang into action, reassuring Paul and helping him with the breathing equipment until he could breathe normally again. Upon Bernie’s return, Paul made Kit promise not to mention the incident, fearing it would bring Billy rushing back. Kit’s response seemed ominous as he contemplated the gravity of the situation, saying: “I should say something, shouldn’t I? In case it happens again.” When asked if he was concerned about Bernie telling Billy, Paul admitted he was. “I do wish I’d met you sooner, you and Gemma.” In a heart-wrenching exchange, Paul tells Kit: “Won’t be long now,” to which Kit responds: “Well, how about I spend as much time with you as I can? Make up for what I lost,” as Paul responds: “Double mint.”

Fans are preparing for the end of Paul’s storyline

Viewers were left in suspense after the episode, with one tweeting: “Paul’s gonna die and Billy won’t be there. #corrie.” Another posted: “#Corrie Paul’s dying tonight isn’t he? ” A third expressed concern: “Billy is going to he too drunk to look after Paul isn’t he. He’s not going to be able to hear him choke from the sofa! #Corrie.” In Monday’s episode, Billy will be racing against the clock to be by Paul’s side after losing his phone during a night out. It remains unclear whether he’ll make it in time. Paul’s mum Bernie and stepdaughter Summer will do everything they can to keep Paul alive while Billy is absent. After finding Paul unresponsive and struggling to breathe, his frantic family try to locate Billy and call an ambulance. Speaking to OK! and other media, actor Dan hinted at whether Billy will get his emotional goodbye with Paul, and what could happen if he isn’t able to be with him. Daniel revealed what would be “Billy’s worst nightmare”, as he shared Billy’s inevitable heartache about spending Paul’s final night alive out drinking instead of being with him. He said: “It’s the fact he’s spent Paul’s last night on Earth in a bar somewhere, instead of at home. [He could have been] snuggled up with him, falling asleep next to home and then waking up next to him, all those bits in between.”Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
