Privacy NoticeFollowing the shock news of Disney cancelling Star Wars: The Acolyte after just one season, lead star Amandla Stenberg has broken her silence about the show being dropped. The actress took to her Instagram to share her honest thoughts and revealed the cancellation didn’t come as a huge shock for her because of the reaction they had received from viewers. She expressed: “There are many folks out there that I want to acknowledge and I want to show appreciation and love and support for, so that’s why I’m hopping on here to talk about this, which is that our Star Wars show has been cancelled. “And I’m gonna be transparent and say that it’s not a huge shock for me. Of course I live in the bubble of my own reality, but for those who aren’t aware, there has been a rampage of vitriol that we have faced since the show was even announced, when it was still just a concept and no one had even seen it.” The performer went on to reveal that she’s been going through the motions in order to come to terms with it.

She continued: “And this really affected me when I first got the job. Even though I anticipated it happening, it’s not something you can fully understand what it feels like until it’s happening to you. “However, I feel like I’ve kinda moved through those feelings in various ways, including being vocal about it myself. “For me, it just became a situation where there was no option but for me to honor my sense of ethics and my belief system and my value system while being in this very unique position.” The news was revealed in August, after the airing of the first season back in June or July on Disney+ this year. The first season aired eight episodes and featured Amandla as twin sisters Verosha ‘Osha’ and Mae-ho ‘Mae’ Aniseya.

As well as Amanda, the cast also included Lee Jung-Jae, Manny Jacinto, Jodie Turner-Smith, Dafne Keen, Rebecca Henderson, Charlie Barnett, Dean-Charles Chapman and Carrie-Anne Moss. As part of the Star Wars franchise, Acolyte was set at the end of the High Republic era before the events of the Skywalker Saga and followed a Jedi investigation into a series of crimes. Despite getting fairly positive reviews from critics, fans were left divided by the series which overall impacted viewership. It ranked in the top position for the biggest series premiere on Disney+ this year with 4.8 million views in its first day but failed to sustain the momentum and dropped out of the top ten in week three.
