Privacy Notice Lord Sugar didn’t hold back his thoughts on the winners of the 2024 National Television Awards (NTAs), suggesting a potential bias towards ITV stars. The business mogul and face of The Apprentice, aged 77, took to social media to express his scepticism after ITV personalities, including Kate Garraway and the dynamic duo Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly, scooped up major awards at the event held at London’s O2 arena. Kate Garraway was honoured with Best Authored Documentary for ‘Derek’s Story’, while Ant and Dec continued their winning streak, taking home the Best Presenter award for an unprecedented 23rd time.

Lord Sugar’s tweets were sharp and direct as he questioned the legitimacy of the voting process: “Kate Garraway it is truly a very sad story. ANOTHER ITV award to one of their employees.” When challenged by a viewer who pointed out that the awards are voted for by the public, Lord Sugar retorted, “You are deluded. There are ways to fiddle votes.” He also cast doubt on the victory of ITV’s ‘The Chase’, which won the Best Daytime Award, asking, “The Chase another ITV show. Who counts the votes? coincidence!” Not stopping there, Lord Sugar highlighted his own show’s success outside of the NTAs: “Actually for the record the Apprentice has won every other TV award except NTA. COINCIDENCE!” Sign up to OK!’s daily newsletter to get updates sent to your inbox for free

Finally, he took a swipe at the NTAs apparent favouritism towards ITV, especially regarding Ant and Dec’s double win: “Double award for Ant and Dec. This NTA’s is an ITV show. Coincidence or not?”. Lord Sugar previously took a swipe at Ant and Dec, saying: “Guess what the cookery, travel, football, beauty and football category have been won by Ant and Dec.” An X user chimed in with: “They probably won because it’s not a scripted show like the Apprentice.” The BBC star hit back: “Shut up idiot how can the Apprentice be scripted. Use the pea brain you have. We have no idea what the candidates will say out in the street or in boardroom.” See the full list of NTA 2024 winners from last night

In an earlier tweet, he quipped: “Suprise Suprise Ant and Dec win an award at the NTA. DONALD TRUMP would say it’s a fix.” Lord Sugar then explained why he no longer attends the NTAs and hinted that his co-star Karren Brady also avoids the award ceremony for the same reason. A viewer queried: “Were you not there Alan? The Apprentice was up for an award.” He responded: “I was invited but for 18 years I have learnt we won’t win karren has also learnt but Tim is still learning ( having said that like Nick they would both go to an opening if an envelope ) @Nick_Hewer @karren_brady @TC_MBE.” Other winners on the big night included BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing and Stacey Solomon’s Sort Your Life Out, among others.Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
