Privacy NoticeStrictly Come Dancing’s Gorka Marquez called it quits with his former fiancée Lauren Sheridan back in 2016, but it sadly also coincided with the day he was brutally attacked in Blackpool. The talented Spanish dancer, who was partnered up with EastEnders star Tameka Empson on Strictly at the time, sadly danced his last tango with Lauren who was also a pro dancer. Whispers had been swirling after getting engaged earlier that year that the couple abruptly “dropped their wedding plans and separated”. A sourced told The Sun back in 2016: “Gorka and Lauren aren’t together anymore.” Their romance seemed rock solid but it unexpectedly crumbled, leaving friends and fans stunned. The source reportedly gave more details: “Nobody saw this coming, and it’s a big shock for their friends and family who thought they were a great match.” It was reported that Lauren wiped clean her social media of any traces of Gorka and unfollowed him in the process.

It was also noted that the duo were last snapped together on the fateful night in Blackpool when Gorka was shockingly set upon by a group of rowdy teens. The Strictly star endured a vicious assault mere hours after the live Blackpool performance. Striding towards a Blackpool nightclub, the Spanish dance maestro suffered an attack that left him minus two teeth, leaving fans and colleagues shocked at the savage, unprovoked incident as per police reports from the time. However, showing resilience, Gorka took to Twitter with a positive update on his well-being after the dreadful ordeal. He tweeted: “Thanks for all your kind messages and support about Blackpool.” Wrapping up with an optimistic outlook, he added, “It was a bad experience but I’m feeling better and just want to look forward to the show on Saturday!”

These days, however, Gorka is still causing a storm on the Strictly dancefloor and is partnered up with This Morning regular Dr Punam Krishan for season 22. He’s also engaged to former Hollyoaks star Gemma Atkinson, with the pair sharing daughter Mia and son Thiago. He’s also been known to open up about his children and their dancing skills. While recently appearing on Strictly: It Takes Two alongside his partner for this year’s competition, host Fleur East said: “Thiago is old enough to watch you on TV.” Gorka then replied while throwing shade at his fiancée: “You know what, he’s got the moves and this might sound not good enough for Mia but I think he might have more rhythm than Mia. I think the boys in the family have the moves not the girls.
