Privacy NoticeStrictly Come Dancing star Wynne Evans has opened up on his impressive weight loss journey, revealing he’s shed seven stone since his early days as the Go Compare man. Chatting to hosts Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard on ITV’s This Morning on Thursday 11 September, an impressed Ben said: “Let’s talk about you’ve lost a lot of weight. You’ve lost seven stone now, is it, Wynne?”. Wynne replied: “Yeah. If you can believe it, the shape of me. I have. I just did it. One day I thought, ‘Right, this is it’. And one day I started doing a little bit of running well, walking, actually, at the start. Then I slowly lost weight. So when the call came from Strictly I thought, ‘This is the right spot’. Now I can lose a bit more.”

The singer revealed that after his radio show wraps at noon, he goes to dance rehearsals until late evening, saying, “it’s pretty full on”, reports Wales Online. Wynne revealed that exercise has had a big positive impact on his mental health. After hitting rock bottom in 2016 and having some “very dark thoughts”, Wynne said he decided to make a change. He said: “It really affected my mental health, my confidence and my ego – it totally changed me as a person.” “It made me very aware of being alone. And even though I was only 46 I had this irrational fear of dying on my own. I had very dark thoughts and very dark days where I would contemplate all sorts of terrible things.”

The star opened up about seeking professional help and creating a home gym to combat his low moods. He shared: “So if I’m at home and feeling a bit down I do 20 minutes on the treadmill and it’s the best way to make myself feel brighter. It’s like singing, which also releases endorphins in the body.” At his heaviest, Wynne weighed in at 22 stone, during a period of mourning for his parents following their deaths and dealing with his marriage breakdown. He had tied the knot with ex-wife Tanwen back in 1999, but after 17 years, the couple went their separate ways in 2016. The pair first crossed paths while studying at the British Youth Orchestra, where Tanwen caught her future husband’s eye by slipping notes into his pigeonhole. The proposal was as romantic as it gets, taking place at Cardiff Central Station the moment Tanwen disembarked from her train.

Together, they have two children Ismay and Taliesin. While he tends to keep his family life private, he couldn’t resist sharing a touching moment when he won Celebrity MasterChef in 2023, telling viewers: “The kids will love this, they’ll be like ‘Dad! I can’t believe you did it when all you cook for us is beans on toast!'”.
