The E4 reality show got off to a explosive start as the grooms came to blows just minutes into the first episode of the series, following a controversial comment about a ‘wife swap’. Despite having not met his wife yet, groom Alex could be seen questioning what would happen if he wasn’t attracted to the woman he’d been matched with and found himself interested in somebody else during the experiment. The other contestants weren’t impressed with Alex’s comments and tension soon rose between them all behind the scenes. Alex, 28, who has been single for seven months, said: “What if I am not totally attracted to my wife? And there is another lady that I am attracted to?” Fellow groom Kieran then said: “Come in with your wife and if you are going to leave, don’t leave with someone else’s wife. Wife swapping shouldn’t even be coming into someone’s head right now.”

Alex defended himself, insisting: “You are coming into this and you have to consider every option, have you not? I’m not thinking about wife swapping, I haven’t even met her yet. I haven’t even met my wife yet, and everyone is getting on to me like I am going to go and take someone else’s wife.” Viewers at home were also unimpressed by Alex’s comments. The dramatic first episode of MAFS UK comes after relationship expert Paul C. Brunson, who stars on the show with Melanie Schilling and Charlene Douglas, teased that the new cast is “incredible”. Paul, speaking about MAFS UK 2024 at the grand premiere on Tuesday (September 10), said: “The cast is incredible. They’ve been on a journey and I believe this is the strongest and it could be the most exciting series yet.” Meanwhile, Charlene teased: “It’s one of E4’s biggest shows and we’re so proud of the brides and the grooms.
