Privacy NoticeTipping Point’s Ben Shephard couldn’t hide his shock when a contestant burst into song in the middle of the game. The 49 year old host was introducing a new set of players on Tuesday’s episode (17 September) when one of them stopped playing to sing. Ben had just asked the group: “Right everybody ready. Hands on the buzzer. Here comes your first question. Which member of the royal family became first in line to the throne in September 2022? “. Glasgow sales assistant Maureen quickly buzzed in with the right answer, “Prince William.” After her correct response, Ben asked if she wanted to play or pass. Deciding to go for it, Maureen chose drop zone one and picked a counter from the machine. But as the counter began to fall, Maureen suddenly started singing, leaving Ben stunned and exchanging looks with the other contestants, reports the Liverpool Echo.

Maureen sang out loud: “When there were no answers to them all if you love me, really love me, as I love you.” A baffled Ben cut in: “Maureen there is drops going on here why are you serenading us.” Undaunted, Maureen kept on with her heartfelt rendition, much to Ben’s delight. Trying to keep a straight face, Ben laughed and said: “Thanks, Maureen. But I have no idea what it was.” Her fellow contestants also giggled at the unexpected musical interlude, clearly entertained by the spontaneous performance as they looked on from their podiums. Hermoine from London and Rob from Bristol tried hard to keep their composure. Maureen unveiled her song’s title as “The Answer to Everything.” Ben quipped: “Well the answer to everything is nothing because nothing dropped. But you did shove things around a fair bit and made some movement. You pushed the mystery counter over a little bit. But Maureen it is not going to drop so you have two counters to play for.” Sign up to OK!’s TV newsletter to get updates sent to your inbox for free

Tipping Point viewers were baffled and rushed to Twitter to ponder the origins of the contestants. One tweeted in disbelief: “No what an earth just happened why is she singing? Poor Ben he looks frightened.” Another was amused: “Hope we see Maureen on the Chase sometime. She is too much HA. #TippingPoint.” Meanwhile, someone else tweeted: “Seriously, where do they get these contestants? ! #TippingPoint.”

Ben had never enountered a contestant singing during the game

Despite the buzz she created, Maureen was eventually out of the game, with Hermoine following suit. Rob reached the final but came away empty-handed.Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
