Privacy NoticeStrictly Come Dancing’s Chris McCausland has shared that his daughter is concerned he might just “fall off” the dance floor while taking to the stage on the BBC One hit show. The 47 year old stand-up star etched his name in the Strictly history books as the first blind contestant ever to grace the competition, wowing everyone with his debut on Saturday (21 September) alongside professional Dianne Buswell. Chris left judges and viewers alike amazed with his sensational routine, owning the dance floor with a confidence that had the crowd in awe. However, Chris revealed that before his Strictly entrance, he was wrestling with second thoughts about joining the show, fretting over how his vision impairment might affect his fancy footwork. Sharing his thoughts with The Telegraph, he confessed to being “terrified” at the prospect of potentially embarrassing himself on national telly each week.

Kicking off his musings, he expressed, “I mean, how can I possibly have confidence in my ability to do something when I can’t see the entirely visual thing that I’m being asked to do?”. “On top of that, stick it on live TV where failures are there for everybody to see and where the chance of a generous edit is absolute zero, and what could possibly go wrong? ” Chris joked. However, it was his 10 year old daughter Sophie’s words of encouragement that gave him the confidence to strut his stuff on the dance floor, reports the Mirror. “I showed my 10-year-old daughter a clip of the show and asked her if I should do it. ‘No, Daddy,’ she said. ‘You’ll fall off the stage and break your leg.’ She’s a joker at heart, but she’s got a point,” he quipped.

He humorously added that he had “checked and there is no stage, so the joke’s on her,” and pondered whether other celebs received the same “ringing endorsement” from their families. But Sophie didn’t need to fret, as her dad made a smashing debut on the dance floor on Saturday, leaving co-host Tess Daly gobsmacked. The judges, including Shirley Ballas, were wowed by the comedian’s rhythm and talent and Strictly fans were completely taken with his performance. Viewers couldn’t help but rave over Chris’ performance, with one fan exclaiming: “Just how incredibly inspirational is Chris McCausland he is blind and he can do this please keep him in the competition and let’s see how he gets on,” while praise was also lavished on Dianne Buswell as another chimed in: “Dianne Buswell you are A LEGEND. I could honestly cry at how good Chris was. The public LOVE him.” The admiration didn’t stop there, with yet another adding: “This show never ceases to amaze me. I genuinely can’t believe what a sensational performance that was from Chris McCausland and Dianne Buswell. Absolutely outstanding.”Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
