Privacy NoticeDavina McCall, who recently won a special recognition award at the National Television Awards, is back on TV screens with her new season of My Mum, Your Dad. The 56-year-old star of the ITV dating show for over-50s, which made its triumphant return to screens this week, hosts the show which sees a group of single mid-lifers stay at a plush country retreat, while all being on the hunt for love. The programme, which features mature parents nudged by their grown-up children, offers a deep dive into personal growth as participants work through their personal relationship baggage and it’s bound to get emotional. But Davina was once left sobbing on TV herself – back in 2014 after she jogged over the finishing line following a brutal seven-day triathlon for charity.

Ten years ago, the TV favourite swam, cycled and ran 500 miles from Edinburgh Castle to London to raise £760,026 for BT Sport Relief. She took part in the Beyond Breaking Point challenge but was left exhausted quite near the beginning of her challenge after completing a one-mile open water swim in Lake Windermere. Davina was then diagnosed as being in the early stages of hypothermia on the first day of the challenge after battling through 60mph winds in the Lake District. But then she shockingly collapsed after swimming 1.5 miles across Lake Windermere.

She said at the time: “Windermere was my nemesis. I worried about my health while I was in the water and I felt really cold and so tired. When you get out of the water, your body temperature suddenly plummets and they had to get me indoors as quick as possible.” Struggling to climb out of the water, officials ran to her rescue after she collapsed and was dragged to safety. The TV presenter broke down after her ordeal and admitted she was “scared” to continue the challenge.

But Davina bravely went on to reassure fans she was fine as she then embarked on the lengthy bike ride, just over an hour after collapsing during the Sport Relief challenge. Despite the collapse, Davina said at the time: “I’m ok. That was hairy. Thank you for all your support. I’m about to get on a bike.” Davina then set out on a gruelling 65-mile cycle to Accrington and despite her horrific experience, the mum-of-three completed her journey and came out victorious. Her trainer Greg Whyte previously admitted : “Right from the beginning she was struggling.”

After completing the epic challenge, Davina shared: “I’ve never cried as much. I’m quite emotional but since I’ve had children I’ve cried less – you keep it together for your kids. But on this journey, I’ve wept like a baby every day.” Davina’s on-screen tears may have been the result of her arduous challenge but the star is bound to also get emotional during the latest season of My Mum, Your Dad as she gets to know the latest batch of hopeful singles. During the show’s first week back after returning with a new season this week, My Mum, Your Dad star Danny candidly opened up about his past affair, confessing that it led to him losing everything he ever wanted.

In an emotional moment during one episode, Danny, 49, got teary as he reflected on his life and the errors he made along the way, reported the Manchester Evening News. Holding a photo of his younger self, he admitted: “This chap, he was on the cusp of going into the world on his own without knowing what he wanted to do.” Opening up about his infidelity, he revealed: “Just know you’ve made a couple of mistakes. He made a mistake with his marriage. I ended up having an affair. I kind of had everything I ever wanted and I lost it. I spent the rest of my adult years trying to find it again. I’m so envious of people that have families that are together.”Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
