Privacy NoticeCoronation Street’s Sue Cleaver has spilled the beans on the time she was accidentally knocked out cold while filming a fight scene for the popular ITV soap. The seasoned actress, known for portraying tough cookie Eileen Grimshaw, opened up about the hair-raising moment in her upcoming memoir A Work in Progress. During an intense scene back in 2012, co-star Judy Holt, acting as Lesley, unintentionally landed an uppercut that sent Sue straight to dreamland on set. Sue shared the scary details in her book, saying: “We had a stunt adviser and had spent some time practising our manoeuvres but unfortunately during a take, Judy got a bit carried away. An upward punch made contact with my face. I don’t remember anything else but apparently I dropped like a stone, out cold.”

After the knockout, Sue was whisked off for a hospital scan but later got the thumbs up from doctors to return to work. She even found a silver lining, revealing: “They ended up using the sound of the real punch, so it wasn’t all for nothing!” On a personal note, Sue also spoke about her journey towards an alcohol-free life. In a heart-to-heart with Prima magazine, she confessed: “I don’t have any fear around alcohol any more, and that is really freeing. I never imagined getting to that state. I thought I had a dependency. I thought I couldn’t get by without having a glass of wine at night,” reports the Manchester Evening News. She revealed: “I thought life wouldn’t be great without a glass of wine. It would be absolutely great without wine. I just thought it wouldn’t. It’s the thinking around it that is the problem.” She also shared her views on ageing, saying: “So many people my age are depressed about 60, like it is the end of the line. I absolutely don’t feel that way. I feel like the world is my oyster now.” Sign up to OK!’s TV newsletter to get updates sent to your inbox for free

The actress also talked about her past in her new book. “There were boyfriends, one-night stands. I convinced myself that ‘Oh, if I do this, they will love me.’ I was always searching for a way to belong,” she recalls. “It was tragic really, and it breaks my heart to think about it now. There’s so much shame wrapped up in my teenage years. I was just searching and searching for someone to make me feel okay. Because I didn’t know how to be okay myself. So, I became really promiscuous.”Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
