Privacy NoticeStrictly Come Dancing fans were left in awe of Chris McCausland’s incredible performance on Saturday, 28 September’s show. The comedian, who is the show’s first blind contestant, danced a Foxtrot to Be Young, Be Foolish, Be Happy with his partner Dianne Buswell, leaving viewers speechless. Taking to social media platform X, fans praised Chris, calling him an inspiration and saying they hope he wins this season’s show. One fan wrote “Chris is my winner. His skill is outstanding and makes it look effortless.” Another fan posted: “Chris needs to win this, he’s on the Bill Bailey arc of ‘genuine beginner to joyful dancer’.” Meanwhile others admitted to getting emotional while watching Chris dance. “Chris making me well up at the TV every week with pride,” said one. “I still get emotional when Chris last night said on Dianne’s vid diaries that he feels left out when he’s literally the SOUL of the show this series,” another added.

However, Chris joked that he was at a disadvantage due to his dance taking place at the same time as the Liverpool FC vs Wolverhampton Wanderers Premier League match. The comic took to the dance floor just as the match was ending, with Liverpool sealing a 2-1 win to go top of the table, reports the Liverpool Echo. After his routine, a giggling Claudia Winkleman asked Chris how he was feeling post-performance, and Chris candidly responded: “I’m not happy to be honest as they’ve put me on 10 minutes before the Liverpool game ends. That’s half of Liverpool watching the football, that’s half of my core voter group.”

Originating from West Derby, Chris has been cracking jokes since 2003. Born with retinitis pigmentosa (RP), Chris faced the challenge of losing his vision at 22. Prior to standing in the spotlight as a comic, he was a web designer until his eyesight worsened. Switching gears due to his condition, he told the ECHO back in 2016: “When I finished uni I focused on designing websites, but then my eyesight started deteriorating and I had enough.

“I knocked it on the head and tried to find something else to do. I was unemployed for maybe a year and a half and in the end I got a job doing business sales. It was really, really boring stuff – just filling the time until I figured out what I properly wanted to do. Then, when I was 26, I got shingles and was signed off from work for two weeks. I was bored out of my head and as a dare from myself I decided to have a go at stand-up.”Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
