Privacy NoticeStrictly Come Dancing viewers have voiced their dissatisfaction with what they feel is a premature announcement in the show, branding one move “a blank cheque to hand out high scores”. During Sunday’s (September 29) first results episode, fans saw Olympian Tom Dean become the first star to be voted off this series. The first results show kicked off with a routine from the judges and professional dancers to When Doves Cry by Prince. There was also a show-stopping musical performance of God Gave Me Feet for Dancing from Ezra Collective featuring Yazmin Lacey. It was then later revealed that the gold-medallist swimmer, 24, would go head-to-head with singer and actress Toyah Willcox, 66, in the dance-off – which eventually saw head judge Shirley Ballas take the deciding vote, and she chose to save Toyah.

However, what caught the attention of many viewers was an announcement made during the programme that some thought came ‘too early’ in the season. Host Claudia Winkleman revealed to the contestants that Punam and her pro partner Gorka will be tackling a Couple’s Choice dance next week, where duos pick from one of three dancing styles. Audience members took issue, arguing such a twist shouldn’t come so soon. Expressing dismay on X, one Strictly viewer tweeted: “No. Absolutely no need for a couples choice in week 3 #SCD #Strictly,” reports the Manchester Evening News.

Fans did not hold back their opinions on the latest Strictly Come Dancing twist, with another tweeting: “On no not Couples Choice next week. Too early and Doctor who? needs to learn basics first #Strictly,” while another echoed the sentiment, saying “A couples choice? Already? #scd #strictly.” One fan also chimed in with a resounding: “Nooooo not couple’s choice! ! ! #strictly,” and @Survivinthe20s didn’t mince words either: “Couples choice is just a blank cheque to hand out high scores and save somebody. It needs binned. #strictly.” Meanwhile, another didn’t hide their disdain for the format, adding: “Jeez NOT the Couples Choice ! ! Noooooo ! Not necessary – it isn’t pretty; ain’t right or proper – get rid #strictly.”Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
