Privacy NoticeGary Lineker has been spotted for the first time since whispers of a leaked email put his future as Match of the Day host up in the air. In the last stretch of his current deal, Gary, who’s been the face of the show since 1999, might see changes ahead with BBC Sport’s head honcho Alex Kay-Jelski reportedly keen to shake things up. “We have nothing to announce, and we have not agreed next steps with regard to his contract,” a rep from the BBC shared. “He is on contract until the end of the season.” On Saturday 5 October, Match of the Day returns to BBC One. Gary, who is set to stay on this season, was caught on camera on Friday during a stroll with his dog, the first glimpse of the 63 year old since the email leak saga began. Earlier, chatting about his Match of the Day stint on BBC Breakfast, Gary mused, “It depends how long they want me, I suppose,” reports the Mirror. “I love doing it at the moment; I’ve still got another year left, at least. So we’ll have to wait and see what happens. Obviously it’s another change in football and television and the rights of the Premier League and stuff like that. All of these things will play a part. But I just feel it’s been an absolute privilege to have presented it for 25 years now. I must be getting old!”

While Gary Lineker remains the face of Match of the Day, he’s notably not taking the reins for the BBC’s Champions League highlights show. The BBC snagged the rights to showcase European football highlights in their latest deal, but it’s Gabby Logan, Mark Chapman, and Jason Mohammad who have been sharing the spotlight, with Gary on the sidelines. Away from his BBC presenting gigs, Gary is keeping busy with podcast projects, yet he’s shown no signs of wanting to hang up his Match of the Day boots just yet. Chatting with The Independent back in August, he shared his passion for the programme: “Match Of The Day is such an iconic show, 60 years is such a long time and I have presented it for 25 of those years,” adding, “Podcast-wise, things have really exceeded our expectations but, at the same time, I love being part of Match Of The Day. I love working for the BBC.” He didn’t hold back on his feelings for the broadcaster either, saying, “I know it has its issues and it has its troubles but I think it’s brilliant. I think sometimes we don’t shout about how good we are at the BBC and what we offer.”Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
