Privacy NoticeAmanda Abbington has shared her relief over leaving Strictly Come Dancing following a cancer scare. The Sherlock actress hit the headlines recently after voicing her concerns about her Strictly partner Giovanni Pernice, who she danced with in the BBC show last year. A BBC report from an internal investigation recently excused the pro dancer from any allegations of physical violence but did offer Amanda an apology after substantiating some of her bullying claims. In her latest tell-all interview, Amanda has spoken out about discovering two lumps in her breast during what was her ‘final week’ on Strictly, shortly before her exit. Opening up about the health scare, Amanda revealed: “I’d got the all-clear after a mammogram a couple of months before.”

She added that the stress made it hard for her to focus on rehearsals and contributed to a tense atmosphere with Giovanni as they practiced the Cha-cha-cha. Opening up about the intense moment, Amanda recalled the serious chat with Giovanni: “‘I’m going to go to the hospital now because I found two lumps in my breast this morning,'” reports the Mirror. She described his response as simply “let me know how it goes”. Sharing further with The Sun, Amanda expressed how the incident became a turning point: “It was the catalyst I’d been sort of waiting for, which is terrible. But that’s what I was thinking, that it was a healthier option than being in that room. Amanda confessed to feeling relieved, as though it was a sign to get out: “OK, I have to deal with this now instead. Phew.” Thankfully, the lumps she found turned out to be nothing sinister. Amanda has said that she is ‘taking guidance’ from a lawyer over her time on Strictly

Following the revelations of the inquiry, she hinted at legal action on Newsnight with Victoria Derbyshire, saying she was “taking guidance from my lawyer on a day-to-day basis”, sharing her strategy with Victoria regarding her next steps after the case closed. She elaborated: “There’s a 30-page report that me and my lawyers are still digesting. There are still things in there that are unresolved.” During an emotional confession about her time on last year’s Strictly series, the actress said she lost “all sense of reality” while training for the show with her dance partner, and told: “It has been one of the worst years of my life. I have been through a lot. Women go through a lot.” Distressingly, she also disclosed the repercussions of voicing her complaints, stating: “I have had to deal with a myriad of horrible things that have continued to happen just for complaining.” A spokesperson for Giovanni responded by saying: “The BBC concluded its review almost a week ago. It is deeply concerning that Ms Abbington appears hellbent on continuously misrepresenting the review’s findings in TV and newspaper interviews. Giovanni is focusing on his job on Ballando con le Stella and supporting his partner, Bianca. He hopes that Ms Abbington can soon accept the review’s findings and look to the future.” The professional dancer has always denied the allegations against him.Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
