His wife, Messeret Stroman Wheeler, confirmed the heartbreaking news that Ed had been battling an illness prior to his death in a New Jersey hospital. The star’s passing occurred on August 21, with Messeret recently sharing the devastating news with fans via Instagram. Alongside a photo of her late husband, she penned: “With a Heavy Heart, I Share My Ed’s Passing.” She went on to pay a touching tribute to Ed, writing: “In loving memory of my beloved husband, Ed Wheeler.

“You brought light, laughter and love into every corner of my life and the lives of all who knew you. Your talent, dedication and passion were unmatched-whether on stage, in front of the camera or behind the scenes.” “From national commercials to the esteemed Negro Ensemble Company, your presence was felt and cherished. My Honey Ed, you were more than just a public figure; you were a guiding light, a supportive partner and my heart. We built a life and created art together, and your legacy will continue to inspire. I will forever miss your voice, your wisdom and your generosity,” reports the Mirror US. Messeret lovingly penned in her emotional tribute: “To all who knew Ed, thank you for your love and support during this time. Let’s remember him for the joy he brought into our lives and the profound impact he had on the world. Rest in peace, My Honey. Ed carved out an impressive career over four decades, shining in the hit police series Blue Bloods and charming audiences in shows like Hope and Faith. The star’s film debut came in 1987, where he starred alongside William Hurt, Albert Brooks, and Holly Hunter in James L. Brooks’ critically acclaimed film Broadcast News. He then went on to star in films including Presumed Innocent, Daylight, Mickey Blue Eyes, Head of State and Godzilla. Ed’s final TV appearance came in a 2010 episode of Blue Bloods. In 2017, the star was given the Living Legend Award by the National Black Theatre Festival for his contributions to television and film. Aside from the acting, Ed and his wife Messeret are also said to have established their own production company together as a couple.
