Privacy NoticePresenter and broadcaster Adrian Chiles appeared on Loose Women on Wednesday 9 October alongside panellist Christine Lampard, 17 years after the pair were co-presenters on The One Show on BBC One. Adrian was on the show to talk about his new book, The Curious Columns of Adrian Chiles, which features a selection of the columns he has written over the years. However, Adrian explained to the Loose Women panel that he had over 500 columns to choose from and “putting the book together involves re-reading every single column,” which he described as “hard-going.” He went on to describe the book as “reasonably entertaining,” and revealed that the column he had the most arguments about when it was first published in The Guardian was one about the art of loading a dishwasher, because the editors didn’t think anyone would like it, and it only eventually appeared after he nagged them to run it.

Adrian, 57, also chatted about the sweet way he met his wife, Katherine Viner. She was his editor and particularly liked a funny column he had written about not finding it easy to bend over anymore, so she asked him to come in for a meeting and, as Adrian said on the show, “we ended up getting married.” He added: “If I hadn’t had trouble bending over, I would never have got married!” Adrian presented The One Show from 2007 until 2010 with Christine Lampard, and they also presented ITV breakfast show Daybreak together from 2010 until 2011. The pair got on so well, they also presented the documentary series Christine and Adrian’s Friendship Test in 2017. Sign up to OK!’s TV newsletter to get updates sent to your inbox for free

Earlier this year, Adrian spoke about the death of his father, revealing he was “shocked” by his dad’s passing in March. In a moving column, he wrote: “All my life I’d worried about my dad dying. I couldn’t, and can’t, get my head around much at all. About the only thing I am sure of is that 50 years of worrying about it was properly pointless.” He said his father had suffered a fall in January and fractured his shoulder, but after being discharged from A&S, he was admitted to a “rural community hospital” a few days later. He passed away six weeks later on 9 March. The TV star also said that he thought his father was “stuck” between a life he “didn’t want to live” and a “death he didn’t want to die” in an emotional confession. He went on to describe the moments before his dad Peter’s passing, noting how he had realised there are “two types of people in the world” categorised into those who are familiar with dying and those who aren’t.Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
