Privacy NoticeGogglebox returns to our screens tonight, with stars including Mary Killen, known for her sharp wit and hilarious quips and her husband Giles Wood. But some years ago, the favourite faces from the hit Channel 4 show stirred up conversation with some surprising confessions about their past. In a revealing interview with The Guardian, the eccentric couple admitted transgressions – and Mary even got candid by revealing her unlikely criminal history. Though, she cheekily clarified: “I’ve only ever committed white collar crimes.”

The Gogglebox star explained: “I’ve reused unfranked stamps or travelled without buying a ticket if the conductor didn’t come round.” Speaking in 2018, Mary said also said that she’s not the only one her and Giles know who has made an illegal trip: “We know a man who commuted to London daily for 20 years and hid in the loo both ways. Life’s too short.” However, the TV personality also added that the ‘white collar crimes’ are as bad as her misdeeds get, admitting: “My conscience would come after me. I’m too honest.” Posh couple Mary and Giles, who have been married for over 30 years, have become some of the most familiar faces on TV, delivering some of the show’s most memorable moments. They’ve returned once again for the new series of the show, airing now, and which they have appeared on since 2015. Sign up to OK!’s daily newsletter to get updates sent to your inbox for free

But, this isn’t the only revelation we’ve had about Mary’s past. In a recent episode of the new Gogglebox series, fans of the show were left confused over her apparent ‘missing’ accent – with the star also opening up about the ‘dismal ending’ of her childhood home at the same time. While the couple may appear a picture of cosy, quirky married bliss on the show, commenting on the latest TV from their countryside cottage home in Wiltshire, their relationship hasn’t been without its challenges. Mary has revealed that back in 1985, in the early stages of their relationship, they actually broke up – but it turned out to be good for the relationship and for Giles. Speaking to The Telegraph about her husband, she said: “When we broke up in 1985 you suddenly became very competent; you got new, chic clothes and started working hard.” The couple of course eventually reunited, and went on to capture the hearts of the nation on the Channel 4 show.Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
