The Scottish star, 44, who has previously been candid about her battle with weight and journey to sobriety, showed off her slimmed down figure as she detailed how she lost nine stone. The singer also opened up to GMB hosts Kate Garraway and Rob Rinder about the “seriously dark thoughts” she experienced before she decided to turn her life around. Michelle rose to fame on the second and final series of the UK talent show in 2003, and now co-hosts The Afternoon Show on BBC Radio Scotland.

Speaking about her children during Friday’s instalment of Good Morning Britain, Michelle said: “They’re four and two now. When I had my children, it was like a light switch went off because all of a sudden it wasn’t about me anymore. I just started to have seriously dark thoughts about me passing away and not being there for the kids.” But in her “20s and 30s”, Michelle was so focused on going back to Scotland and having a go at a broadcast career that she admittedly “didn’t really focus at all” on her weight. However, she confessed that the more she was trying to lose weight at first, the more she found herself gaining it. Then she successfully lost weight with weight training, swimming and changing her relationship with food.

She added: “I was looking at myself in the mirror and I should be thinking, ‘Look this body has given you these two kids and your career is going great’ but I was really miserable when I looked in the mirror.” Back in August, the star showed off her incredible body transformation after dropping the whopping nine stone by sharing before and after photo of her dramatic weight loss following a major lifestyle change. The 44 year old took to Instagram to showcase her transformation with a photo taken in late 2022 beside one more recent snap.

Michelle spoke about the changes she had made and how after 44 years she had discovered her self-worth. In the lengthy caption, she wrote: “Sometimes it’s okay to stop and take stock of what you’ve achieved. “For the past year or so I’ve been making changes in my life to help me reach the place in which I now find myself. Happily it is a place of good health and contentment.” She continued: “I love both versions of myself in the above two photos. The image on the left was taken in late 2022, eight months after I’d given birth to my second beautiful baby and I’d just started a new job presenting The Afternoon Show on @bbcradioscot.

“Even though life was going great for me, at the time I was very tired both physically and mentally. If I’m honest, I was also struggling with my fitness – caring for two babies under three was my priority and working on myself was not something I had dedicated time to considering, let alone doing. “The photograph on the right was taken a few weeks ago, behind the scenes at a photoshoot I did in Glasgow. In total I’ve dropped 9st through calorie deficit and introducing exercise into my life.” Michelle shot to fame after winning Pop Idol in 2003, at the time she weighed 23 stone. In 2005 she went on to appear on the Channel 4 show You Are What You Eat, before releasing a book and DVD about weight loss. In recent years, Michelle stressed that being healthy is more important to her than size. Reflecting on her journey with The Sunday Post, she revealed: “It’s only in the last couple of months I’ve started to lose weight again. I’ve always struggled with my weight I think I always will. It doesn’t really bother me. “It’s never stopped me doing anything. I’m comfortable with it. But Pop Idol and people’s reaction to my size made me realise I was massively overweight and just how critical people can be.”Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
