Privacy NoticeStrictly Come Dancing star Shayne Ward made heads turn in 2019 with his shocking transformation – after dedicating himself to gym workouts alongside his partner Sophie Austin. After leaving Coronation Street, where he played Aidan Connor, in 2018, Shayne and his fiancée set out on a mission to build their strength and embrace a healthier way of life. The actor was then seen brimming with confidence, shedding his ‘love handles’ and showcasing a new look complete with a lush beard and lengthier locks a stark contrast to his days on the cobbles. Shayne opened up about his past habits of ‘eating for the sake of eating’ but is now relishing the benefits of cutting out late-night snacks, sugary drinks, and sweets. His mornings have also seen a change, swapping cereal for a plate of eggs and veggies.

He shared: “The change in my body has been crazy. I know I speak for myself, and a lot of guys I know as well, we always suffer with putting a lot of weight on around our midsection, our gut and our hip. That’s the area we always feel most conscious about,” reports the Manchester Evening News. At the time of his departure from the cobbles, Shayne said although he would miss the soap, it ‘hadn’t done him any favours for the dad bod’. “I will miss it when I leave but it’s not done favours for the dad bod,” he told The Sun. “The canteen has a really great menu but then it also has really naughty food. Put it this way it’s your choice, but then if you eat from the naughty menu you’ve got to make sure you don’t put weight on, which is what happened to me really,” he said. Spotlighting his weight loss success, he said: “Since the training, that’s been the place that has changed the most. Love handles I think that’s what we all call them. They’ve completely gone down.”

“My motivation throughout all this is my little girl and that will not change. I obviously want to look the best I can look, feel the best I can feel and be as healthy as I can be, but my daughter Willow May comes above all that. I know if I’m feeling all that, I’m going to be the best dad for her,” the former X Factor champ, who shed three stone shared. Sophie also wowed with her impressive weight loss journey, dropping over a stone and a half in just the first few weeks of her new programme. The former Hollyoaks star cut down two dress sizes, thanks to motivation from Shayne. In 2019, Sophie candidly discussed how she ‘lost herself’ post-pregnancy and had developed a complex relationship with her body image. Opening up about her struggles, she confessed: “I hated the way I looked. “And it upset me because I understand my body accomplished something incredible. Dealing with anxiety has been a battle for me, and it intensified after Willow was born. Food became a comfort I didn’t recognize myself and felt shame for harbouring such feelings. “I would get down about my body and physical appearance. My biggest thing is the confidence I had just lost it. I just feel like I’m getting myself back slowly and it’s a really big thing for me. You can’t buy that.”Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
