Privacy NoticeBucks Fizz singer Cheryl Baker has seemingly not aged a day since her Eurovision days. The pop icon looks just as fabulous on The Celebrity Chase Celebrity special re-run on Saturday on ITV, starring as one of the famous faces to win money for charity. The iconic Bucks Fizz band member appears as a contestant alongside Good Morning Britain’s Laura Tobin, comedian Mark Steel and sports presenter Jason Bell. They take on Chaser Jenny Ryan in a bid to raise as much money possible for their chosen charities. Cheryl, Mark and Laura manage to make it through to the Final Chase as Jason fails to win his head-to-head round around Jenny. Working well as a team, the celebrities answer 19 questions correctly.

However, Laura correctly predicts this wouldn’t be enough to stop the Chaser. Despite being able to push back Jenny on some questions, she answers more correct questions in her two minutes – meaning instead of £142,000, the celebrities are left with just £1,000 each for their charities. Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, to discuss Cheryl’s appearance when it was last on TV, one fan penned: “Cheryl’s looking well.” Another user posted: “Celebrity Chase, Cheryl Baker and three people I’ve never heard of.” But what is most surprising to many is that Cheryl Baker is actually just a stage now. Cheryl was born Rita Maria Crudington.
The group was made up of singers Bobby G, Cheryl Baker, Mike Nolan and Jay Aston – who was later replaced by Shelley Preston
She is best known for being a member of Bucks Fizz – now called The Fizz – who won the 1981 Eurovision Song Contest. Bucks Fizz shot to fame after winning the 1981 Eurovision contest, and went on to top the charts with their bubbly 80s pop music. The band, which originally consisted of Bobby G, Jay Aston, Cheryl and Mike Nolan, enjoyed many years of success with hits such as The Land Of Make Believe and Making Your Mind Up reaching number one in the charts.

The line-up continued to change over the years, with Jay quitting Bucks Fizz in 1985 and being replaced by Shelley Preston. Now, there are two versions of the famous group – one with the same name including Bobby G, and a second made up of Jay, Mike and Cheryl, called The Fizz. While the original Bucks Fizz is no more, the four stars continue to perform and release music, alongside other ventures such as TV presenting and charity work.

Cheryl, now 70, is still a member of The Fizz and has appeared on several shows over the years, including The Chase as well as Popstar to Operastar, Celebrity Mastermind and Would I Lie To You? In 2018, she competed on ITV’s Dancing on Ice alongside professional skater Dan Whiston, with the pair being eliminated in the fourth week.

She resides in Kent with her family, and has previously opened up about the money struggles she’s faced due to the pandemic. She shared in 2021: “We had one virtual gig and that was our only income, it’s been ridiculously hard. I owe lots of tax, I physically haven’t got the money to pay anybody back because I’m broke.”Story SavedYou can find this story in My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
