Zoe smothered her face in snail mucin cream for 2 weeks in the name of beauty (Image: Zoe Cripps)If you’re a skincare TikTok addict or an Amazon beauty section regular, you’ve probably stumbled upon the term: snail mucin. Yes, you read that correctly. This unique ingredient is causing quite a stir in the beauty industry, and today, I’m going to explore a product that utilises this supposedly plumping and anti-ageing component: COSRX’s Advanced Snail 92 All in One Cream. Recently launched in a tube format in either 50g or 100g sizes, the previous tub packaging has been revamped to make it even easier to dispense and apply without letting any bacteria into an open pot. If you’re not familiar with the Advanced Snail 92 All in One Cream, it’s a much-loved moisturiser filled with 92% snail secretion filtrate-don’t let that name deter you; it’s actually a lightweight, hydrating powerhouse designed to deeply nourish and repair the skin. It pledges to leave your complexion looking plump, smooth, and rejuvenated, which is why so many skincare enthusiasts are singing its praises. From dry patches to acne scars, this cream is said to address a wide range of skin issues, reports the Mirror.

The million-dollar question is, does it actually contain real snail slime? Yes. The industrious yet well-treated snails are placed over a mesh in a dark and quiet room, where they are left alone to freely roam the net and leave mucin in their trails. That mucin goes into the product and onto your face. If you’re thinking this sounds a bit hippy-dippy, it’s not some new-fangled Gen Z craze. Snail secretions have been a staple in K-beauty (Korean beauty) products for years, long before they became a mainstream sensation. The slime factor: Yay or nay? Zoe gives her thoughts

After all the hype about snail mucin in skincare, I finally took the plunge and tried the COSRX Advanced Snail 92 All in One Cream, and boy am I glad I did. It took a few tries to get over the slightly gross idea of smearing snail goo all over my face, but after two weeks of daily use, I’m pleased to say I no longer think of the cream as slimy. The fact that the cream is unscented probably helps, which I’m thankful for. I must admit, the hydration it delivers is phenomenal – my skin feels plump, soft, and deeply moisturised without any oily residue. It’s light but potent, giving me that dewy, fresh-faced glow that makes it look like I’ve been really looking after myself. The biggest revelation has been how effective it is at healing and soothing my skin. I have a few acne scars and some residual redness from old blemishes, and after consistent use, I’ve noticed those marks fading and my skin tone becoming much more even. Plus, it’s incredibly calming when my skin gets angry or irritated (like when I’ve overdone it with the retinol). However, the texture might not be everyone’s cup of tea – it’s a tad slimy and sticky initially, but once it sinks in, you’ll hardly notice it. It’s slightly denser than my go-to day cream, given that I have combination skin and usually opt for lighter formulas, but considering the hydration and healing perks it offers, this cream has certainly secured a place in my skincare regime.
