Privacy NoticeStrictly Come Dancing’s Anton Du Beke surprised viewers this week when he told one couple after watching their dance: “I thought I wouldn’t really talk about it.” The judge couldn’t help but be sidetracked by Gorka Marquez’s revealing outfit during the latest episode, completely glossing over Dr Punam Krishan’s performance. The pair had just finished a jive to Lizzo’s hit “2 Be Loved (Am I Ready)” when Anton decided to focus on Gorka’s attire rather than the dance, which Craig Revel Horwood had branded “sloppy” and “messy”. Motsi Mabuse felt the pressure of last week’s success might have been too much, noting some errors in their routine. Anton cheekily remarked, “I was watching you dance and I thought to myself ‘I’ve got a shirt like that’. It doesn’t quite look the same on me as on you, Gorks.”

He continued to deflect from the critique, saying, “They’re right about what they say so I thought I wouldn’t really talk about it. I thought I’d talk about something else. I tied my own tie you know, and I think it’s gone rather well. I look forward to seeing you next week.” Gorka quickly jumped in to defend his dance partner, pointing out: “She’s a GP. She doesn’t do anything to do with performing!” Despite their efforts, the duo scored a modest 20 out of 40, with Craig giving them only 4 points. Fans were also distracted by Gorka’s chest and shared their thoughts on social media. One viewer expressed their amusement at Anton’s comments, posting: “Anton just talking about Gorka’s shirt than the dance. Anton is just chaotic tonight and I bloody love it.” “I wasn’t watching Dr Punam, my eyes were on Gorka and his chest. #Strictly,” one fan tweeted, clearly distracted by the dancer’s physique. “Whoever is in charge of Gorka’s wardrobe is definitely having fun in this series…. Thank you,” another viewer expressed their gratitude for the wardrobe choices. And a fourth chimed in with adoration: “Gorka bringing back the open shirt and shiny pants whenever they might be in a bit of danger … and I LOVE HIM FOR THAT.” Sign up to OK!’s daily newsletter to get updates sent to your inbox for free
The pair made Strictly history
(Image: BBC/Ray Burmiston)
This isn’t the first time the pair are making headlines as in the the annual Movie Week special, they left fans with a couple of similar gripes after their jubilant and emotional performance, which marked a first in Strictly history. They performed the first couple’s choice of the show’s 20th anniversary series to Bole Chudiyan from the Bollywood film Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham. They tied in second place with a score of 33, leading Shirley Ballas to exclaim “supercalifragilisticexpialidocious” in line with her Mary Poppins costume. Before their performance, Dr Punam shared that she wanted to do a Bollywood dance to “bring my culture and my heritage to the forefront”. During rehearsals, she expressed: “I never saw Indian girls dancing on mainstream television so to be doing now an Indian dance on a platform like Strictly is huge.”
Strictly fans were left wanting more after their showstopping Bollywood dance
She recounted the emotional loss of her grandad in India during the Covid pandemic, noting: “He’ll be watching and he’ll be really proud, as will my mum.” She reflected: “We didn’t grow up with much, we didn’t have a lot, but we got there.” Tearing up with emotion following host Claudia Winkleman’s question about what performing a Bollywood routine meant to her, Dr Punam responded: “It meant everything.” She added: “I feel like I just went to four-year-old me that would have loved to see something like this when I was growing up, and I guess you just can’t be what you can’t see.”
