Privacy NoticeDr Clare Bailey Mosley, wife of the late Michael Mosley, has bravely spoken out about the heart-wrenching loss of her husband. The beloved father-of-four tragically passed away at 67 after a harrowing incident on the Greek island of Symi last June. Amidst scorching heat, Michael embarked on a trek from a beach to their accommodation, which led to his untimely death. Clare sounded the alarm when he didn’t return, but it took four days before his body was discovered in a secluded, rocky area following an extensive search. Devastating footage captured what appeared to be Michael’s final moments as he struggled against the intense heat on a hillside. Clare reflected that he had attempted an “incredible climb, took the wrong route, and collapsed where he couldn’t easily be seen.”

Clare spoke her experience of grief after losing her husband on The One Show

While Greek officials deemed his death due to natural causes, an inquest is scheduled for next month in Buckinghamshire, where Michael resided. Before a poignant tribute on Monday’s episode (14 October) of The One Show, host Alex Jones prepared viewers, saying: “But first tonight, we are remembering the work of Dr Michael Moseley, and I have been speaking to the person who knew him best.”, reports the Mirror. “Dr Michael Mosely was well known and loved as a broadcaster who suggested we could do perhaps just one thing to improve our health and our lives. It was such a shock to all of us when he tragically died when on holiday in Greece with his wife last summer, having suffered from what was most likely heat exhaustion.” The bereaved wife of the late Michael opened up to BBC’s Alex in a poignant conversation about her husband’s lasting legacy, as she prepared for a final programme celebrating his life and achievements. During the heartfelt interview, Clare was asked by Alex, “How are you doing? How are the children doing? You must still be processing what’s happened to Michael.”

Clearly moved, Clare responded, “Yes, I think we are. It’s just as they say that it’s kind of one day at a time, and it can hit you suddenly like pain, and then it settles, and actually, your body’s quite kind to you as well because actually, we found that, you know, we were after Michael died, we were able to laugh and tell silly jokes as well, but we all miss him.” When asked what Michael was like as a husband and father, Clare fondly remembered him as “was very shy” and shared with Alex, “A lot of people didn’t recognise that because he’s quite enthusiastic about what he’s doing, and he was just kind and thoughtful. He absolutely loved his work, and whatever he did, he checked it out before he put it out there, and so I think that’s one of the reasons people really trusted him.” Clare also touched on how proud Michael was of reversing his own diabetes, sharing a touching anecdote about continuing to find hidden chocolate around their family home, remnants of her efforts to support his health journey.

Afterwards, fans had the chance to see Michael once more in a BBC series he was passionately working on up until his passing. The two new half-hour episodes pick up where Michael’s Radio 4 podcast, Just One Thing, left off. In the opening scenes, Michael indulged in a spot of golf, busting some dance moves, doing a bit of gardening, and even braving a chilly plunge in an icy tub. There’s a particularly adorable moment where he and Clare are seen sketching each other, only to collapse into laughter at their less-than-accurate portraits. Clare has expressed her pride in the programme, saying: “I’m so proud of what he’s done. I had so many lovely letters saying how important it was to what he’d been doing, and some of them made me cry.”Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
