Privacy NoticeEmmerdale fans reckon they’ve cracked the code on who’s making a surprise return to the ITV soap this week. The show has been dropping hints that a former Dingle family member will be returning for Zak Dingle’s funeral. Zak’s (Steve Halliwell) death was announced on Monday (14 October), leaving the village and his loved ones preparing to bid an emotional farewell to the beloved character. But it seems a familiar face is set to reappear in the Dales very soon. Debbie Dingle (Charley Webb), who had been living with her grandad Zak in Scotland, was widely speculated to be the one making a comeback. After all, she was the one who broke the heartbreaking news of Zak’s passing to the family, leaving them devastated in Tuesday’s episode (15 October).

However, as we inch closer to the mystery return, some fans are doubting it’s Debbie. This speculation was fuelled when Debbie was listed as a character featuring in this week’s episodes online, although not by ITV or the soap itself. While Debbie would likely have been included in this list regardless of her return due to her mention on Monday, many fans were convinced she’d be back. But now, another name has emerged as the potential mystery Dingle – fans are suspecting it could be Zak’s ex-wife Nellie Dingle (Sandra Gough), who hasn’t been seen on screen for 24 years, reports the Mirror. Emmerdale enthusiasts are speculating over who might be returning to the iconic soap after some intriguing hints were dropped. Nellie, mother of Sam Dingle (James Hooton) and rarely mentioned, is still believed to be alive, prompting fans to take to social media with their theories. One viewer posted: “Nellie Dingle looms.” Another chimed in: “Now Cain and Belle are both left with no parents. But Sam’s mum is still alive, so what if Nellie Dingle is who is returning?” A third added a nostalgic twist: “I just put the tv on and It was #Heartbeat and Nellie Dingle was on it so that’s my guess at who turns up at Zak’s funeral!”. The anticipation is high, and viewers are eager to see who will make an appearance this week. Meanwhile, other fans are convinced Debbie will be the one to return for Zak’s funeral. Tweets flooded in with predictions and hopes: “Debbie will be the big Dingle character returning to stand by Zak’s graveside on Thursday. This will be heartbreaking.”

So if her name is in the credits, that will be why?”
