Privacy NoticePrince Harry shockingly ‘missed 32 calls from the Royal Family’ as they tried to inform him of his dear grandfather, Prince Philip’s passing in 2021. On April 9 of that year, the longest-serving consort passed away at the age of 99, just two months shy of his 100th birthday. In the days leading up to the funeral, Prince Harry shared how he woke up to “32 missed calls” before having a “short, heart-racing” conversation with his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II. While Harry’s extended family in the UK mourned, a massive communication mishap was taking place thousands of miles away in sunny California, where Harry now lives with his wife, Meghan Markle, and their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.

Harry remembered the harrowing chat he had with his grandmother, the late Queen, in his memoir Spare, when just days before Philip’s funeral she said: “Harry… grandfather has passed away.” Harry’s return for Prince Philip’s funeral was a touching moment that caught the world’s attention, reports the Express. After his grandfather’s death, Harry paid a heartfelt tribute to Philip, calling him the “legend of banter”. In a released statement, he said: “He was authentically himself, with a seriously sharp wit, and could hold the attention of any room due to his charm and also because you never knew what he might say next.”

Prince Harry solemnly joined the Royal Family procession, walking behind his grandfather’s coffin on its way to St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle. The funeral marked a poignant moment for Harry and his brother William, yet they were notably separated by their cousin Peter Phillips during the march. Buckingham Palace clarified that this arrangement was “a practical change rather than sending a signal.

Prince Philip’s funeral took place at St George’s Chapel, Windsor

“A spokesperson from the Palace said: “This is a funeral and we are not going to be drawn into perceptions of drama. The arrangements have been agreed and represent Her Majesty’s wishes.” Prince Philip had a significant hand in the planning of his own funeral over several years, including the design of the custom Land Rover hearse. The Duke of Edinburgh had a long-standing connection with Land Rovers, having used them throughout his adult life and bestowed his Royal Warrant upon the company over four decades ago.Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
