Privacy Notice The Princess of Wales is often the one behind the camera, snapping away photos of her husband Prince William and their children. Most recently, she showed off her photography talents when she released a touching birthday photo of the future King playfully jumping with Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, nine, and Prince Louis, six, Kate has a longstanding passion for photography, despite a photo editing fiasco which made the biggest photo agencies in the world remove a family photograph released to mark Mother’s Day, from their libraries that millions of people use. But according to the Channel 5 documentary, Kate: A Queen for the Future, Kate ‘took unprecedented step’ to become the main photographer for the family after she saw Prince William ‘damaged’ through what the press has done to his life.

In the documentary, journalist Afua Hagan pointed out Kate’s ‘unprecedented move’. She explained: “The Princess of Wales understands who she is, the position that she’s in. She also understands the interest in her family, especially her children, that people want to see them growing up. So she understands that the press needs these pictures. “The Princess of Wales has seen first hand through her husband, Prince William, the damage that the press has done to his life and so she’s realised that if she can do something about that, if she can take control, then she should do that.”

She continued: “Kate did something which was unprecedented at the time. She decided that she was going to be the one to photograph her own children, which I think was an absolutely brilliant move. “She’s decided I will take them and I will deliver them to the press agencies. I’ll be the one that post them on social media.” Royal Commentator‌ Ingrid Seward added that Kate is basically ‘the main photographer of the family’ and by doing this, the children wouldn’t have to go through the trauma of having to pose for somebody they didn’t know. Media coverage has always been a part of life within the monarchy and something Prince William has dealt with firsthand since birth. But both of the princes have spoken out about how they have struggled with being in the media spotlight ever since they were young.

The Princess of Wales’ most recent posted snap was taken last month in Norfolk of William with their children jumping high above some sand dunes. In the touching caption, she wrote: “Happy birthday Papa, we all love you so much! Cx” Kate, 42, is a keen photographer and has behind behind the lens of some of the family’s most treasured snaps. It’s been a busy time for the royals recently, not least because both Kate and her father-in-law, King Charles III are receiving treatment for cancer.

The family also recently celebrated King Charles’ official birthday at Trooping the Colour, during which Kate made her first major official appearance since announcing her health condition in March. Kate’s birthday post to William is also believed to be the first photograph she’s posted since admitting that the special Mother’s Day picture released by Kensington Palace had been edited. The Princess of Wales apologised for the “confusion” surrounding the image, and said: “Like many amateur photographers, I do occasionally experiment with editing. I wanted to express my apologies for any confusion the family photograph we shared yesterday caused. I hope everyone celebrating had a very happy Mother’s Day.
