Privacy NoticePrince William showed off his impressive polo skills at a big charity event, but the Princess of Wales was unable to attend this year. The Prince took part in the Out-Sourcing Inc Royal Charity Polo Cup 2024 at Guards Polo Club in Windsor Great Park, which raises money for good causes. He arrived at the club in navy chinos and a blue blazer, before changing into his polo kit and mounting his horse for the match. The Princess of Wales, who is currently undergoing chemotherapy for cancer, made a brief appearance at Trooping the Colour last month. However, Kensington Palace announced she wouldn’t be cheering on her husband at the polo this year.

Prince William instead had the support of his cousin Peter Philips, who was joined by his girlfriend Harriet Sperling. The event, which took place on July 12, is raising money for charities close to William and Kates hearts. Last year, the Princess was able to present her husband with a trophy and a kiss at the event. In a statement released last month, Kate revealed her treatment was going well, but that she was not out of the woods yet and had good days and bad days. Royal fans are hoping Kate might be well enough to attend the Wimbledon tennis finals this weekend, as she is a patron of The All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club. Meanwhile, William is expected to jet off to Germany to watch England take on Spain in the Euro 2024 football final in Berlin on Sunday.

This will be William’s 13th time playing in the fixture, which is set to raise £1 million for charity this year, bringing the total raised over the years to more than £13 million. Eleven charities and organisations will benefit from the polo match, including the Motor Neurone Disease Association. William paid tribute to “legend of rugby league” and MND campaigner Rob Burrow following his death from the disease last month. Other causes to benefit are Wales Air Ambulance, Mountain Rescue England and Wales, SHOUT, Child Bereavement UK, Royal African Society, Place2Be, Action for Children, The Blackthorn Rally, HMS Oardacious Fund and The Royal Marsden.

The Prince’s appearance at the polo match today comes a day after he apologised for his croaky voice at an event for his homelessness project. The Prince of Wales told guests at the event that he had “a hoarse voice after last night”, as he enthused over a “hell of a goal” by Ollie Watkins that fired England to victory. He had spent more than an hour at the event in Brixton yesterday, marking one year of his Homewards project and urging experts in the sector to tell him how best to help tackle the problem. . He arrived at the event in a quaint courtyard garden and mingled at six stands, each representing one of the project’s locations – Newport; Bournemouth, Poole, and Christchurch; Lambeth; Belfast; Aberdeen; and Sheffield. At each stand, local experts were eager to engage with him. The team from Bournemouth, Poole and Christchurch (BPC) knew just how to catch the prince’s interest, bringing up football since he’s not only the President of the FA but also a die-hard Aston Villa fan. “I’ve got a hoarse voice from last night! ” William exclaimed. He shared his excitement about the match, saying, “I have a little moment when I thought ‘…he might do this’! ? I was willing him on when he came on. It was a hell of a goal.” Later, as someone praised him for the game’s outcome, his response was both joyful and humble: “I didn’t play last night, I can’t take credit for it.”Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
