Privacy NoticeKate Middleton received a standing ovation as she made her way to Centre Court for the Wimbledon Men’s Final on Sunday (14 July). The Princess of Wales’ emotional entrance into the Royal Box comes after she shared that she is undergoing preventative chemotherapy for cancer. Fans with a keen eye would have spotted a unique bow accessory pinned to Kate’s stylish purple dress. The Duchess has been seen sporting the small dark green and purple bow below her shoulder at previous Wimbledon events. However, many might not be aware of the special significance behind this fashion choice. Kate is the patron of the AELTC, which oversees the daily operations of The Championships, a role she has held since 2016. The club adopted green and purple as its official colours in 1909.

The Princess of Wales will present the trophy to the winner of the Wimbledon men’s final on Sunday, marking her second public engagement since announcing her cancer diagnosis. Kate has been receiving chemotherapy and made her first public appearance since revealing her diagnosis in March at the Trooping the Colour ceremony in London last month. The princess, who is also the patron of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, will attend the final day of the championships to present the men’s trophy to either Novak Djokovic or Carlos Alcaraz, as confirmed by Kensington Palace.

Earlier in the tournament, Kate had praised double champion Sir Andy Murray, telling him he should be “so very proud” after he missed out on a final match at Wimbledon. In a heartfelt message on social media, signed by Kate herself, she wrote: “An incredible #Wimbledon career comes to an end. You should be so very proud @andy_murray. On behalf of all of us, thank you! C.” Sir Andy was scheduled to play mixed doubles with Emma Raducanu, but the former US Open champion had to withdraw from the match due to stiffness in her right wrist. Last year, Kate made several visits to the championships and presented Alcaraz with his first Wimbledon trophy after watching him compete against Novak Djokovic in the men’s singles final.Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
