Privacy Notice As Queen Camilla celebrates her 77th birthday, she will surely be looking forward to a quiet day with her husband and her family – once her duties at the State Opening of Parliament are completed! The Queen is also very lucky to have a wide circle of friends who frequently speak out in support or praise of her character and charity work. Among these famous faces are several household names – from an acting legend who is much-loved for her two iconic royal portrayals, a national treasure and a television presenter who is hardly off our screens. Not to mention, one of the UK’s most loved late drag queens.

The Queen has a very famous circle of close celebrity friends, many of whom have taken part in her Reading Room Book Club. The list includes former MP and author Gyles Brandreth, Stephen Fry and the late historical author Hilary Mantel. One of Camilla’s closest celebrity friends is Dame Judi Dench. Not only has she taken part in the Reading Room, but she was been pictured with the duchess at an engagement in 2018. The pair were visiting Queen Victoria’s former home of Osborne on The Isle of Wight and were photographed enjoying an ice cream together on the late Queen’s private beach.

Another notable face to have shared a close bond with Camilla is the late great comedian, TV presenter and drag queen, Paul O’Grady. The pair were often pictured together at events for Battersea Dogs and Cats home as Camilla serves as their Patron. After one of his appearances alongside The Queen, Paul took to Instagram to share some kind words about his friend alongside a picture of the pair with a dog. The 2022 post read: “Luckily Battersea’s Patron, HRH The Duchess of Cornwall was on hand to help out. A lovely lady who’s passionate about dogs. There was a competition to see who’s dog would run straight to their owner ignoring the food, squeaky toys etc put in their way. “The Duchess’s dog ran straight to her, ignoring the temptation put in her way whilst Sausage headed straight for the press and photographers not a bit interested in the competition. She was obviously more interested in raising her profile and posing for the paps.”

Dame Joanna Lumley has spoken out many times to praise The King and Queen and has been regularly pictured greeting them warmly with hugs and kisses. Before Dame Judi Dench openly declared that she did not agree with the making of Netflix’s The Crown, Joanna Lumley confessed that she stopped watching the series out of loyalty to the Royal Family. Speaking two years ago, the Absolutely Fabulous star explained: “Suddenly, the show began to get closer and closer and they had people acting as Prince Charles, as Camilla Parker Bowles, as Princess Anne. I know them all.

“I know that’s not how they speak or what they said or did. People say, ‘Oh, well everybody knows that it’s made up.’ People don’t, people think it’s the truth. So I decided not to watch it anymore because I have some loyalty, as one would to anybody they know and like and are lucky enough to be friendly with. “It’s rather ghastly. I mean, think of somebody imagining what you say and then it becoming something spread around the world and people believing it’s the gospel truth. It must be agonising. So I thought I should step away from it. I couldn’t bring myself to watch it because it’s made up.”Story SavedYou can find this story in My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
