Privacy NoticeTwo royal observers have claimed that Prince Harry was “furious” about the “backlash” he faced following the release of his controversial memoir Spare. Rebecca English, royal writer at The Mail, suggested that the father-of-two might have bagged a “significant amount of money” from the book sales. But she claims that, at the same time, there has been a “massive personal backlash” due to his telling of events in the Royal Family. Mail on Sunday’s editor, Charlotte Griffiths, added the Duke of Sussex was likely infuriated with everyone for not reacting to his printed revelations in the way he had anticipated. Chatting on the Palace Confidential podcast, she said: “I don’t think he regrets writing it. I know he… he found the process incredibly cathartic, and I don’t think he regrets that. “But yes, of course he’ll regret how it was received, but the blame won’t be on himself because I just don’t think he has that self-awareness.”

“He’ll be furious with all of us, with everybody else for…for not reacting in the way that he wanted. But you know what – what did he expect, honestly? I think he thought he had every right to share his views, tell his side of the story. But he just can’t bear the way that people reacted to it.” Rebecca went on to say she had reached out to Penguin Random House, the publishers behind the Duke’s memoir, and was told there are “no announcements to make at the moment”. When she pressed on whether a paperback edition had been confirmed, the publisher’s reply was a simple: “No, we haven’t”. Later, Rebecca speculated: “It does make me wonder whether he will plan to bring another one out because if he does, he surely would have to include an updated chapter like these paperbacks do. And maybe he’s just realised it’s not worth it for him to go that way.” Despite the financial success of Spare, Harry has admitted that his father King Charles and brother Prince William “wouldn’t ever forgive” him if he had discussed more private events. He previously hinted at having ample content for another book. This comes after the Sussexes’ bombshell Netflix documentary and their controversial Oprah Winfrey interview, where they made accusations about the royal household. Yet, it was the shocking claims in Spare that really shook the monarchy, with Harry alleging that William attacked him and criticising Charles’ parenting skills.
