Privacy NoticePrincess Anne has been sporting her signature beehive hairstyle for over 40 years. The royal is never seen without her hair perfectly blowdried back and she never switches up her hairstyle like other members of the Royal Family. However, the Princess Royal, 73, sported much longer locks in her younger years. In unearthed photographs, Anne can be seen with a sleek, bouncy bob which grazes her shoulders – and she looks totally different. A black-and-white photo shows the Princess in the stands at Wimbledon in 1967. Anne, then age 16, watched the men’s single final between John Newcombe and Wilhelm Bungert. The teen wore a button-up collared coat with a small brooch as she watched the match unfold.

Anne was a regular at Wimbledon throughout her youth. She even presented Ann Jones with the trophy in 1969. However, Anne hasn’t appeared at the tennis tournament since the 1980s. Other Royals such as the Princess of Wales are regulars at Wimbledon. Princess Anne’s signature hair do has proven difficult to replicate, much to her surprise. The hair and make-up department for Netflix’s series The Crown took two hours to recreate her iconic beehive, despite her insisting it takes “minutes” to style. Speaking in the 2020 documentary, Anne: The Princess Royal at 70, the Princess Royal said: “Actually, I read an article the other day about the – I don’t watch Netflix and The Crown… but the actress was talking about how long it took them to do their hair like I did. And I’m thinking, ‘How could you possibly take that long?’ I mean, it takes me 10 or 15 minutes.”

The unearthed photo of Anne comes after she made a triumphant return to Royal engagements on 12 July at the Riding for the Disabled Association (RDA) National Championships in Gloucestershire, following her unexpected horse riding injury on Sunday, 23 June. The incident occurred during an evening walk on her Gatcombe Park estate, resulting in minor head injuries believed to be from contact with a horse’s leg or head, according to her doctors. After a five-night hospital stay, she was released on Friday, 28 June, and has been recuperating ever since. Despite the remnants of bruising under her left eye, she was all smiles at the event, looking elegant in a grey suit, vibrant scarf, and blue hat. At the event, Anne admitted she “can’t remember a single thing” about the horse accident that left her with head injuries.Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
