Privacy NoticeThe Princess of Wales has established a number of cherished royal traditions for her three children – Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis – especially when it comes to their birthdays. These traditions have become quite popular among fans of the Royal Family on social media. And, even though she continues to focus on her cancer treatment, there is one special custom that the Princess could be doing ahead of Prince George’s 11th birthday celebration tomorrow (July 22). One way in which Kate has deviated from royal tradition for her children’s birthdays is by personally taking their official birthday portraits, instead of allowing intrusive photo calls that Princes William and Harry went through growing up.

However, this isn’t the only personal touch that she has added to her children’s birthdays. She also has a favourite – and very relatable – tradition that she could be carrying out tonight. Prince George Alexander Louis was born on July 22, 2013 at St Mary’s Hospital in Paddington. His mother previously shared a very ordinary routine she follows on the eve of her children’s birthdays. Like many parents around the world, Kate enjoys making her children’s birthday cakes herself and even mentioned staying up late the night before to do so.

During her festive appearance on Dame Mary Berry’s ‘A Berry Royal Christmas’, Kate shared: “I love making the cake. It’s become a bit of a tradition that I stay up ’til midnight with ridiculous amounts of cake mix and icing and I make far too much. But I love it.” Kate has also taken to capturing her children’s official birthday portraits herself, a modern twist on Royal traditions. In a candid moment from a YouTube video for her Hold Still photography project, she revealed the children’s amusing reaction to her hobby: “Everyone’s like, ‘Mummy, please stop taking photographs!”.

The family love to bake together

Prince George is already showing he’s got his mother’s knack for baking as it was previously reported that the young prince hosted a cake sale to support Tusk during lockdown, a cause dear to Prince William’s heart. Charlie Mayhew, CEO of Tusk, told GB News about George’s adorable initiative: “Prince George very sweetly did a little cake sale to raise money for Tusk during lockdown and wrote a very sweet card about it, clearly demonstrating his concern for Africa’s wildlife”. With Prince William as a long-standing patron of Tusk since 2005, it seems environmental conservation is a passion shared across generations in the Royal family.Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
