In the aftermath of a terrifying incident at a children’s holiday club in Southport, which unfolded at 11.50am on Monday 29 July and resulted in a significant emergency services response including armed police, fire crews, and numerous ambulances, two children were tragically killed. Six others suffered severe injuries; three others were less seriously hurt and two adults are also fighting for their lives. Taking to Twitter, William and Kate conveyed their deep sympathy: “As parents, we cannot begin to imagine what the families, friends and loved ones of those killed and injured in Southport today are going through. Showing appreciation for the swift action of the first responders, they further remarked: “Thank you also to the emergency responders who, despite being met with the most horrific scenes, demonstrated compassion and professionalism when your community needed you most.” Their compassionate comments come after King Charles III expressed his dismay, declaring on the Royal Family’s digital channels: “We have been profoundly shocked to hear of the utterly horrific incident in Southport today”, as reported by the Mirror. “We send our most heartfelt condolences, prayers and deepest sympathies to the families and loved ones of those who have so tragically lost their lives, and to all those affected by this truly appalling attack.” Sir Keir Starmer, the Labour leader, expressed his sorrow over the tragic events in Southport, stating, “The whole country is deeply shocked.” Police shared distressing details about a 17 year old boy from Banks, originally from Cardiff, who has been arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder after an assault on Hart Street, Southport, Merseyside. The authorities have clarified that despite the absence of terror-related motives, the reasons behind this brutal act “remains unclear.”

Merseyside Police Chief Constable Serena Kennedy discussed the disturbance, noting that children were at a Taylor Swift-themed function at a dance studio “when the offender armed with a knife walked into the premises and started to attack the children inside.” Constable Kennedy added: “When [officers] arrived, they were shocked to find that multiple people, many of whom were children, had been subjected to a ferocious attack and had suffered serious injuries..” In a statement that touched the heart, she revealed her personal connection to the tragedy: “As a mum of two daughters, and the nanna of a five-year-old grand-daughter, I cannot begin to imagine the pain and suffering the families of the victims are currently going through, and I want to send them our heartfelt condolences and sympathies.” Chief Constable Kennedy also highlighted that the two adults were injured while “bravely” trying to protect the children. “We believe that the adults who were injured were bravely trying to protect the children who were being attacked,” she said.Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
