Privacy NoticeIt’s been 13 years since Zara and Mike Tindall married in a famously low-key service at Canongate Kirk, Edinburgh. The couple, who first met in a bar during England’s Rugby World Cup campaign in Australia in 2003, said their vows in a Scottish ceremony surrounded by their nearest and dearest. Just three months before, Prince William and Kate had their grand wedding at Westminster Abbey, watched by an audience of over 36 million – but Zara and Mike were reportedly after something much more intimate. Known for their love of a good party, Zara and Mike not only hosted a party on the Royal Yacht Britannia the night before their big day, but they also partied until the small hours at the reception.

Meghan’s blunt 7-word reply when asked about quitting career for Prince Harry

To mark Zara and Mike’s 13-year anniversary, Guides for Brides has revisited their special day and uncovered the hidden moments you might have missed the first time around…. Kate’s wedding gift was denied When Kate tied the knot with Prince William in April 2011, she was gifted a royal title by the Queen. From that moment on, they became known as the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. However, Zara didn’t receive this traditional gift from her grandmother because only sons and grandsons of the reigning monarch are granted peerages upon marriage. Zara’s ‘Something Blue’ was unconventional

It’s a well-known tradition for brides to incorporate something blue into their wedding attire. While Meghan and Kate chose to sew a piece of blue fabric into their gowns, Zara made a bold statement by painting her toenails a vibrant electric blue. The best man had a black eye Mike Tindall, a former rugby star, asked his fellow player Iain Balshaw to be his best man. He looked dapper in a suit and tie, but guests were taken aback when they noticed he had a black eye along with cuts and scratches. Interestingly, Mike didn’t get injured during a rugby game. Instead, he had a moped accident in France just a week before his wedding day. We bet Mike was pretty understanding about the whole situation. After all, he’s broken his nose eight times throughout his career. In fact, his mother-in-law Princess Anne even suggested he get corrective surgery before his wedding. But Mike didn’t go through with the operation until 2018. Zara’s dress paid tribute to the Queen Zara Tindall made a stunning choice for her wedding dress, turning to Stewart Parvin, one of Queen Camilla’s most-loved designers who boasts a Royal Warrant of Appointment from Her Majesty. Her bridal gown was a vision in silk faille and duchesse satin, complete with a structured bodice and delicate silk tulle-capped sleeves, all at the surprisingly modest price of just £7,000. In contrast, Kate Middleton’s iconic dress came with a hefty £250,000 price tag, while Meghan Markle’s elegant creation was just over £200,000. Parvin expressed his admiration, saying, “I thought it was fabulous, to have somebody who is so confident that she is happy to go to the same designer as her grandmother,” reflecting on the occasion. When Zara dazzled in a £280,000 tiara from the late Queen’s personal collection, it was widely seen as a heartfelt homage to her cherished grandmother. However, the tiara, originally a wedding gift from Prince Philip’s mother, Princess Alice, to Queen Elizabeth, had been inherited by Zara’s mother, Princess Anne. She also gave a nod to her stepfather Following her divorce from Captain Mark Phillips in 1989, Princess Anne married her second husband, Vice Admiral Sir Timothy Laurence, in a ceremony at Crathie Kirk in Aberdeenshire in December 1992. It’s speculated that Zara’s own Scottish wedding was a subtle nod to her mother Anne and Timothy’s special day. The reception had a vodka fountain and shots Mike and Zara, known for their love of a good party, opted for a vodka fountain instead of the traditional chocolate one at their wedding. Royal insiders even claimed that at 10:30 pm, guests picked up shot glasses and filled them with alcohol before knocking them back. Nikita Thorne, Head of Strategy at wedding directory Guides For Brides, shared her thoughts on Zara and Mike’s big day, revealing how the nuptials offered a more relaxed and relatable approach compared to previous Royal weddings. Nikita said: “Zara and Mike Tindall’s wedding was a refreshing departure from traditional royal nuptials. While not official members of the royal family, their wedding beautifully reflected their personalities and relationship.”

“From vodka shots to Zara’s family ties with Scotland, the celebrations helped offer a unique insight into their relationship and individual personalities. Their approachable and relatable celebration changed the course of typical weddings within the monarchy, offering a down-to-earth feel that is not often associated with royalty. Instead of the usual extravagance of Royal events, they opted to keep things fun and personal, which made their day feel genuine and heartfelt.” “Overall, the wedding helped highlight the importance of celebrating love and commitment above all else. By prioritising personal touches over traditional luxury, Zara and Mike set a new standard of relatability and authenticity. This is still apparent between the couple until this day.”Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
