Privacy Notice Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s 2018 wedding was a moment of great excitement, marking a fresh chapter for the Royal family. However, just two years later, the couple had left their Royal duties behind and relocated to California. Since then, a chasm has formed between the Sussexes and the rest of the Royal family, with Harry and Meghan repeatedly criticising the monarchy – be it in their Oprah interview, their Netflix series, or Harry’s revealing memoir Spare. According to one expert, their constant grievances have shifted American public opinion. US-based Royal commentator Lee Cohen believes that while the Sussexes once “epitomised a modern fairy-tale”, their incessant “whining” has significantly cooled America’s affection for them.

In an article for The US Sun, Lee wrote: “Harry and Meghan just love to complain. And in America’s largely optimistic society, that is a bad look. While some view the couple’s openness as a brave stance against institutional rigidity, many others perceive it as ungrateful and divisive. A segment of Americans, particularly those of us who respect and admire the monarchy, find these repeated criticisms disrespectful and unbecoming. So the Sussexes’ endless narrative of grievance has alienated many who once admired their candour.” The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, continue to be hot topics across the globe, though not always for reasons they’d prefer. A recent YouGov poll has thrust the spotlight upon them once again, revealing an eyebrow-raising shift in Royal popularity stakes. Kate Middleton, now the Princess of Wales, topped the chart as the Royal most cherished by the public, with a 76% approval rating.

Trailing behind with a significant difference, Prince Harry managed only a 31% favourability score, ranking lower than King Charles (63%), Prince Edward (54%) and Queen Consort Camilla (50%). Meanwhile, Meghan found herself nearer the bottom with a scant 26% favourability score, only outdoing Prince Andrew, who languishes at 6%. Royal commentator Hilary Fordwich shared insights on Express.co.uk this week about the Sussexes’ decline: “It is the biggest plummet in popularity in history. To have gone from the number one most popular royals after the Queen, Harry has now gone to just above Prince Andrew.” Sign up to OK’s royal newsletter to get updates sent to your inbox for free

Following reports that Prince Harry is seeking a permanent residence in the UK, Royal author Tom Quinn told The Mirror that the Duke “misses some aspects of his old life” in London, especially his friends. Tom continued: “Inevitably, the honeymoon period where everything in the States is new and exciting is coming to an end and Harry is looking back at the past through rose-tinted spectacles. Harry is determined to find his own permanent home in the UK.”Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
